We had the good fortune of connecting with Robert Palmer Watkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Robert Palmer, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
As an actor, musician, host and entrepreneur, I live a constant roller coaster of wins and losses. As my journey has evolved over the years, I feel I’m winning more and more because even the losses are an opportunity to learn and grow. That may sound cliche, but it’s totally true. Ultimately, with anything anyone is pursuing in life, I think it’s important to ask oneself if you still have a deep passion and love for what it is you are pursuing. Have you made strides since you started? Are you currently making money back from all your hard work or are you at least confident the payoff is going to happen? If the answer is yes to those things….you gotta keep going. Ultimately, I believe in myself and what I’m doing so I feel an obligation to make it happen. Laser focus, dedication, and consistency are usually gonna get you there at some point.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started acting and performing in high school. It’s been a crazy rocky journey from then until now and I don’t think that will ever change. Hopefully finances and certain aspect of my career will smooth out, but the life of an artist is a wild one. I wasn’t meant for a desk job and I do feel I’m where I should be. Acting and the entertainment business is a lot like other careers when it comes to climbing the ladder. It takes time, patience, growth, networking, and being capable of doing the damn job. Every job I’ve gotten as an actor has been one more step to another job or another open door of opportunity. Am I where I wanna be yet, no. Am I a lot Further than I was when I moved here 12 years ago, hell yeah!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well my typical Hollywood tour would obviously include some of the classic stops, Hollywood sign, walk of fame, rodeo, Venice, Malibu…..but now that most people I know have at least come to see me once, I’m able to take them to the more unique local spots. LA has so many things to do and so many cool areas to explore. The beach is always on the agenda. I love being by the water and then bar hopping. Another great spot is Malibu creek canyon, they have some great cliff jumping spots up in those trails. Depending on the water levels and time of year of course.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family and friends have always been my biggest rock. There’s so many days where this biz can be exhausting and deflating. Believing in myself is important, but I think it’s also important to have people around that believe in me as well. Of course that should go both ways. I believe in my people too. Positive energy and support within my circle has kept me strong.
