We had the good fortune of connecting with Rohan Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rohan, what do you attribute your success to?
An important factor behind my success and my brand is what drives me. This entrepreneurial journey I am embarking on is not for myself. Yes, I consistently want to push my limits, see what my true potential is and become wealthy. But, even more, I hope to be an inspiration to others who look like me and come from where I come from. My hope is to expose more low-income communities to the power of entrepreneurship and technology because I truly believe there is no equality without equity. There are so many obstacles in place to keep individuals in low-income communities trapped, and we are given very little opportunity. I want people to understand your situation is not your destination. We just need to keep pushin’ to prevail.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am the CEO + Founder of Barley, Inc! We’ve been recognized as the “Starbucks app for bars” by the Philadelphia Business Journal. Our app enables guests to order food/beverages right from their phones for a takeout or dine-in experience at their favorite bars/restaurants. But, we are very alcohol-centric, we are aiming to create a platform where alcohol brands can reach their consumers within bars/restaurants in real-time. This has not been an easy journey, there has been a lot of learning and reiterating. But, we’ve been able to get this far by being gritty and having the perseverance to withstand the obstacles that have been thrown at me and my team. The biggest lesson I’ve learned on this entrepreneurial journey is that you’re not going to know everything.. and that is perfectly fine, the learning never stops and there will always be new pieces of information that change the competitive landscape. Just enjoy the ride on your way to greatness!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If someone is spending the week with me we’re most likely bar happing every single day. These are the spot I recommend in LA:
2. Bar Bohemien
3. Walt’s Bar
4. Club 90′s
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give a shout-out to The Players’ Impact and Transition Sports and Entertainment. These two groups have been beyond impactful over the past couple of months and I am excited to continue my entrepreneurial journey with these two organizations on my team.
