We had the good fortune of connecting with Romy Schorr and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Romy, what do you attribute your success to?
Pursue your passion and be genuine and authentic! Since I am an online influencer sharing aspects of myself and my life on a regular basis, I think being true to yourself and creating an online persona that mirrors who you are in real life is key. One of the best compliments a person can give me is that I am exactly who I present to be online and that I am so real, relatable and authentic. I think doing what I love and doing what brings me joy is also the key to my success. After being an influencer for over 12 years, I still get excited everyday single to see what opportunities come my way and knowing that I have worked hard to bring these opportunities to fruition is the best feeling in the world
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I think I was born to be an influecner! When I was younger, I used to go to my local department store’s beauty counter or beauty supply and ask what was new and exciting and ask for samples to share both the information and goodies with my friends. Fast forward to my career now, I am a seasoned influencer for women in midlfe partnering with brands and sharing my discoveries, experiences and recommendations with other women like me in order to impact their lives in a positive way. I feel like I am doing exactly what I was meant to do! Before being an influencer, I got a Master’s degree in counseling psychology and was a couples therapist and then I segued that profession into being a focus group moderator. I have always loved connecting with diverse people and getting them to open up and talk so both of those career stops were very fulfilling. However when I turned 40 thirteen years ago, I was looking to transition careers and my husband said that since i am a go-to girl for all things lifestyle and beauty, I should start a blog and share what I love with other women and that’s how Romy Raves was born. I wouldn’t say it has been easy but I have loved it every step of the way. I think the most important thing that I have learned about working in online media is that you have to be nimble and adapt to both technology changes and industry changes quickly because if you don’t you will be left behind.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
What a great question! Our itinerary would def include a hot yoga classes at Core Power Yoga followed by visit to Olympic Spa for an authentic Korean scrub, shiatsu massage and a delish bimbap bowl for lunch. I would also definitely plan an al fresco picnic and a fabulous outdoor performance at the Hollywood Bowl. Another activity I adore is hiking and we have some of the best in LA, so I would probably plan great hike with ocean views (I love Paseo Miramar!) and I would pick up the fabulous Godmother Italian Deli sandwich from Bay Cities in Santa Monica, What a treat it is to eat that yumminess at the top of a mountain with killer ocean views! I love brunch at More Than Waffles in Encino their Mediterranean Omelette, pumpkin waffles, homemade jam and homemade spicy salsa is not-to-be missed. Two more things I would add to our plans would be wine tasting in the Funk Zone in Santa Barbara where everything is walkable with a beachy industrial vibe and I would also do a little clothes shopping at one of my two fav women’s fashion boutiques in the San Fernando Valley (Jane of Tarzana & Diana’s boutique on Tunjunga in Studio City) with everything on trend and priced way below $100 and all locally owned, I LOVE supporting local businesses.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Honestly, as cliche as it may sound it really is my mom and dad. My mom is bold, cute, fun and colorful woman who embraces her fabulousness and uniqueness and makes no apologies for who she is and I am exactly the same way, let’s just say I like to stand out in a crowd and I got that from my mom. My dad is my rock and biggest supporter, my whole life he told me to become an expert at something so that people from all over would seek out my expertise and I have done that my whole career, my incredible drive and self confidence comes from him.
