We had the good fortune of connecting with Rox Redwood and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rox, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m originally from Bristol, UK, but I’ve spent most of my adult life in London. As the youngest of four children, I was naturally full of energy—some might say hyperactive! Desperate for an outlet, I begged my mum to let me take dance classes. After persistent nagging, she kindly took me to my first class, and from that moment, I was hooked. Dance was the only thing that truly captured my focus. Training from such a young age taught me the value of discipline, transforming my boundless energy into something purposeful and driven.

As a teenager, I once walked into the wrong class after a timetable change. That class happened to be Capoeira. I had never heard of it before, but I was instantly mesmerised by the acrobatics, fast kicks, and near misses happening in front of me. That moment sparked the next phase of my journey—one where I set out to ‘master movement.’ I immersed myself in Capoeira, gymnastics, breaking (breakdance) and martial arts, using each discipline to shape myself as an athlete.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Movement and training has been at the core of my life for as long as I can remember. My foundation is in dance, martial arts, and acrobatics, but in recent years, I’ve expanded into filmmaking, acting, and training for the British Stunt Register. My art isn’t confined to one discipline—it’s a fusion of everything I’ve learned, shaped by years of training, competitions, and exploration.

What sets me apart is my approach to movement as a language. Whether it’s through martial arts, breaking, tricking, or storytelling on screen, I see movement as a way to communicate and push boundaries. I thrive on creating unique projects with great people—collaborations that challenge both skill and creativity.

Looking back, I’m incredibly proud of the Breaking competitions and shows I’ve taken part in. I believe everyone should invest in a skill and test themselves through competition and performing. There’s nothing more grounding or humbling than stepping into a stage where you’re up against the best. It forces you to level up and grow in ways you never expected.

The journey hasn’t been easy. Mastering movement, building a career in multiple disciplines and navigating the creative industry comes with its share of setbacks. Injuries, self-doubt, and the grind of training can take a toll, but the key has always been resilience. Every challenge has taught me something—whether it’s discipline, adaptability, or the importance of surrounding myself with the right people.

At the heart of it all, I want my work to inspire others to embrace movement, creativity, and the pursuit of mastery. Whether it’s in martial arts, performance, or filmmaking, I believe in pushing the limits of what’s possible and telling stories in a way that captivates and moves people. That’s what drives me forward every day.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
London has no shortage of amazing spots, but if my best friend were visiting, I’d make sure they experienced the best mix of beautiful views, training, and great food.

Iconic London Views & Food with a View

Start the day with a walk through Greenwich Park, heading up to the Royal Observatory for one of the best views of the city.
Grab lunch at Sushi Samba, where the blend of Japanese, Brazilian, and Peruvian flavours is just as incredible as the rooftop setting.

In the afternoon, cycle along the Thames Path or hop on an Uber Boat for a scenic ride down the river.

Movement & Martial Arts

If they’re up for training, we’d hit either Deptford Boxing Gym or Circle8 Fitness, depending on where we end up. Both have an incredible community and top-tier coaching.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There have been several incredible people who have played a huge role in shaping my journey.

First is Kevin Gopie, aka DJ Renegade, who coached and mentored me in Breaking and was the reason I moved to London. Sometimes, I don’t think people realise the ripple effect that one person’s generosity can have on someone’s life. He invested his time in my development—completely for free, which is incredibly rare in this world. His guidance and belief in me has made a lasting impact.

Next, I have to acknowledge both my Taekwondo teacher, Master Suj Fiaz, and my Capoeira teacher, Master Claudio Campos Rosario. Their influence on my journey has been immense, shaping not just my skills but my mindset and approach to movement.

Of course, my family deserves a huge mention—especially my parents, who took me to dance classes for years, despite the challenge of raising four kids. That kind of dedication and support is something I deeply appreciate.

Lastly, and most importantly, my partner, AJ North. A lifelong martial artist and action actor, AJ is someone I’m incredibly lucky to have by my side. We’re so closely aligned in our passions, and he constantly pushes me to challenge my limits and go even further. Having someone who understands your journey and encourages you every step of the way is truly invaluable.
