We had the good fortune of connecting with Roxana Perez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Roxana, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
The most important lesson for me has been to be ok with changing my mind about a previous business decision/plan. Changing my mind, has made my business more agile, adaptable and quicker to respond to market needs. My business is more open to explore new ideas and opportnitues and in the worse case there is always s good lesson learned.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business is my passion, because I love dogs. Every design that we create its made with dogs, humans and the planet as the inspiration. We create with purpose, functionality, quality of our materials, who makes our garments, everything is part of our design process. Kizzou as a brand represents community, customers, business partners and suppliers are all treated with empathy, kindness and accountability. We have had many challenges on our way and more will come, however we are happy to change our mind, adapt and pivot when needed. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not, but we try, we listen and we adapt while keeping our own essence.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As a dog lover, I would say Central Park its a great place to start, take our some food and get a spot on the grass. Feel like visiting a Market, check out Grand Bazaar every Sunday in UWS and get some shopping done from local designers. Great place to dine Nougatine. Explore West Village, have lunch at St. Tropez and walk to Washington Park there is a super yummy Vegetarian Indian Food Truck during the week.. Still hungry? go down on Mac Dougal St and grab a snack at Crop Circle.
Take a shopping trip to Soho, visit the art galleries along West Broadway (dog friendly), walk further to Nolita and try the best pizza in NYC at Rubirosa.
Don’t miss the local Green Market at Union Square (Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday) , get some of the best Pretzels in town, curious about NYC burgers? Try Union Square Cafe or Gramercy Tavern.
If in East Village, drop by Boris & Horton for a drink, the coolest dog friendly cafe. Hungry? get a Ramen at Momofuku or Korean Food at Thursday Kitchen.
Take the subway to Brooklyn, and visit the Dumbo area, very Instagramable… cross the Brooklyn Bridge back to Manhattan by foot, best way for the views. Get to China Town, Noodle Village and Shanghai 21 are great spots for Chinese food, still room for dessert, don’t miss the yummiest doughnuts at Alimama.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am definitely so grateful to my husband that believes, supports and accepts me how I am. I would also like to give a shout to Gary Vaynerchuk, his business and life philosophy has help me stay focused on what its relevant when launching a business, dealing with people and myself.
