We had the good fortune of connecting with $weetz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi $weetz, how do you think about risk?
Risk taking is something that is very hard to do sometimes. I’d say that taking a risk for pursuing what I love was very hard but I knew that at some point if you don’t risk it then you can’t play the game. Music has always been something that I held close to my heart ever since I was little. Growing up I didn’t have anyone to let me know that making music was something that was possible as a career. I grew up and realized that it was possible. You start from nothing but you can turn that nothing into something.I took the risk of pursuing what I really love for the sake of myself and now I am continuing to build up my career which makes me happy! I would love for people to continue to take risk!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Hey I’m $weetz and I am an indigenous singer, songwriter, performer, and model. I have been singing from the age 2 and I am heavily influenced by my community. I started off by singing/performing in a family band and playing guitar at different events. I later decided that I wanted to be a solo artist and make a name for myself. It was a very hard path to purse at first because I didn’t really know where to start. I then started asking people for advice and help and it slowly became something that I myself took time to build up.I sing about the way I feel and write everything myself. I have an amazing team of creatives that help my dreams come to life. I thank my producer Chris for taking my vision and turning it into something that speaks for itself. I want people to know that even if you don’t know where to start ask around and make it become a reality. Make your dreams come true by being true to yourself!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are several different places I would like to take my friends around LA! I would say that visiting The Santee Ally would be a a great place to start. It shows the real colors of LA and the people who really run this place. The Santee Ally is filled with hard working people and it’s an amazing place to get deals on clothes, food, and gifts for your loved ones. I also would recommend Teddies Red tacos! They have amazing street tacos and you will defiantly want to go back for more.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shed light upon those who inspire me and my husband is defiantly one of them. He is an artist as well and he does an amazing job at his craft. He is the one who pushes me when I feel down. His art also speaks volumes to me and inspires me on a daily basis. I thank him and others who continuously let their art speak for itself.
