Meet Ryan Robinson

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ryan Robinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ryan, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Sociology of Everything exists to serve and elevate the automotive community by giving a voice to perspectives that often go unseen and unheard. Within modern car culture, there is no shortage of talent, passion, or insight—but access to industry knowledge and opportunity is often limited by gatekeeping and lack of visibility.
The automotive world has long maintained a divide between everyday enthusiasts and industry professionals. For many, breaking into that space can feel inaccessible without the right connections or platform. Sociology of Everything was created to challenge that dynamic.
As a former Engineering Test Driver and current Performance Driving Coach, my brand leverages real-world experience to make high-level automotive knowledge more approachable and widely available. Through educational content, storytelling, and direct coaching, it provides enthusiasts with insights typically reserved for those already inside the industry.
Through my social media platforms such as Shift__Robinson and the Shifted Perspective podcast are central to this mission—highlighting untold stories, simplifying complex driving concepts, and creating meaningful conversations that connect passion with profession.
At its core, Sociology of Everything is about empowerment. By breaking down barriers to information and amplifying authentic voices within car culture, the brand helps individuals build confidence, develop skills, and see a clearer path into the automotive world—regardless of their starting point.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I built my career from the inside out, starting in vehicle testing long before I ever stepped into coaching. For over a decade, I worked in development and evaluation roles, contributing to programs with manufacturers like Tesla, Rivian, and AMG. That experience put me behind the wheel in environments where precision matters and mistakes are measured in data. I learned how modern performance systems behave at the limit—how EV torque delivers instantly, how chassis dynamics evolve under stress, and how different drivetrains and engine layouts fundamentally change a car’s behavior. That foundation shaped the way I see driving: not just as a skill, but as a system to be understood.
Breaking into that world wasn’t straightforward. The testing and performance driving industry is small, highly competitive, and often closed off. Access is limited, and opportunities tend to circulate within tight networks. Early on, I faced the reality that ability alone doesn’t open doors—you have to find ways to get in the room in the first place. There were setbacks, missed opportunities, and moments where progress felt slow or uncertain. It forced me to stay persistent, to keep refining my craft, and to build relationships wherever I could. Nothing came quickly, but over time, consistency and dedication created momentum.
After years in testing, I transitioned into coaching, bringing that technical background with me. While instructing at the Porsche Experience Center Los Angeles, I worked with drivers of all experience levels, helping them build confidence and control. What set my approach apart was perspective—I wasn’t just teaching what to do, I was explaining why the car responds the way it does. Having worked across front-, mid-, and rear-engine cars, as well as FWD, RWD, and AWD platforms, I could tailor my instruction to the specific behavior of each vehicle.
Chasing a long-term path in testing also came with hard lessons. It’s a field where stability isn’t guaranteed, and recognition doesn’t always match effort. I realized that waiting for the next opportunity or validation from within the industry wasn’t a sustainable way to build a future. That shift in mindset pushed me to take ownership of my direction instead of relying on a system that doesn’t always make space for new voices.
That’s what led me to build my social platforms, Shift__Robinson, Shifted Perspective podcast, & Sociology of Everything. It became a way to take everything I had learned—through testing, through setbacks, through years of working in high-performance environments—and make it accessible. My focus is on simplifying complex vehicle dynamics and helping drivers develop real understanding, not just memorized techniques. I emphasize anticipation over reaction, smoothness over aggression, and staying mentally ahead of the car.
Looking back, the path wasn’t linear, and it wasn’t easy. But the combination of persistence, hands-on experience, and a willingness to adapt shaped the way I approach both driving and teaching today. What started as a pursuit of testing evolved into something more meaningful—creating my own platform, my own voice, and a way to give others access to knowledge that isn’t always easy to find.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First and foremost I would take my friend on a scenic mountain road drive. California has some of the best roads the west coast has to offer such as Angeles Crest highway, Malibu roads, San Bernardino mountain, just to name a few. I’m a fan of many cultural foods, and being in the heart of LA, there are lots to choose from. Noya Kitchen in little Ethiopia is one of my favorites. Everyday we can visit Asian/South Asian cuisines, to Mediterranean, from burgers to pizza, there’s no shortage of small businesses that craft food excellence. Driving down Pacific Coast Highway passes through many beach towns that have their own unique charm. Squeeze in one beach day and that would be the cherry on top of it all.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank my SOE business partner, and also close friend, Jimmy Xie. He has been a solid back bone and true supporter of our aligned mission for the company. We both care greatly for the cause and genuinely want to give back to the car community that we so passionately care about.
