We had the good fortune of connecting with Ryan Toby and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ryan, how do you think about risk?
I think being a risk taker is the only way to make it in business. You have to believe in yourself, do your homework on your venture of choice then jump!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a singer, songwriter, music producer, and actor. I’ve been in the entertainment industry for 29 years. It’s been a very long road full of challenges. I main thing I had to overcome was a fear of rejection. In my business, you hear a lot of “NO’s” but all that matters is getting to the right “YES”. What’s sets me apart from others in my game is that I have no ego. I leave my feelings at the door when it’s time to get to work. I try not to take things personally and just handle business. This doesn’t mean I have no conscience or morals. It just means I’m never driven by pride.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, I like to work out so the first thing we’d do is go for a nice early morning hike at Runyon Canyon. Then we’d get some green juices and smoothies from Healthy Green in Woodland Hills. For breakfast, I would take them to Juicy Ladies also in Woodland Hills. On one of the days of the trip, I’d love to show them the Getty Center art exhibits. Then of course there’s the beach and Santa Monica Pier. Our nightlife would consist of dinner/drinks at Tao or Katsuya. And I absolutely can not forget to take them to Roscoe’s for some chicken and waffles.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to my parents Norman & Benzie Toby.
