Hi Rylie, what do you attribute your success to?
Hi, I’m Rylie Shaw. In addition to being a 2024 World Champion with my level 7 cheer team Rangers, I am a successful athlete content creator on TikTok and Instagram. I am blessed to have a platform where I can have fun creating content and share my passion for tumbling with my followers. I believe that persistence played a significant role in my journey towards success. Additionally, my experience in Hollywood and the acting industry as a child has helped me learn habits that I now use when I create content. After being on a variety of different sets, I have an understanding of lighting and camera angles and learned the meaning of a camera presence, which is crucial for making entertaining content.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
In 2019, I began posting clips on TikTok for my own enjoyment, but I quickly grew a love for making entertainment content for others. As both the TikTok algorithm and the popular styles of TikTok videos have constantly evolved over the past 5 years, I’ve found myself continually adapting my content to stay relevant and engage with my audience effectively. I am now proud to have amassed 1.2M+ followers and 71M+ likes on TikTok, and 120k+ followers on Instagram, turning my passion into a career. Some of my videos are funny, others are informative. Some are from practice, in which I might be trying a new skill, some are bloopers of my falls during training, while others are about my narcolepsy or different day-to-day beauty routines or lifestyle videos.

I think to be successful in anything you have to have a drive that motivates you otherwise you’ll just burn out. If you have a passion for content creation, honing in on a specific niche, like your favorite sport or hobby, definitely helps because it can attract an audience of others who can also relate to loving that subject. For me, this started with videos based on cheerleading and my passion for tumbling and later I was able to expand to include other subjects like storytimes of my child acting days and my journey with narcolepsy. This helped broaden my audience even further because of all the different facets. As an influencer, my goal is to brand myself as a notable and recognizable figure so I try to share other aspects of my life so that people can understand me as a whole person and not just as an athlete.

There’s a lot of effort behind every successful content creator, and I’m grateful to have some extra hands supporting me on this journey. My team from 500 MGMT has helped me monetize my influence, allowing me to share with my audience some amazing brands or products that I use and love.

For content creators and entrepreneurs, it’s important to keep a work-life balance. It’s easy to lose track of time and become consumed by creativity, leading many creative individuals to experience sleepless nights and stressful days. I always try to balance my schedule by planning my week and writing out my goals for each day. I also allot time for rest which is especially important for me as someone with a sleep disorder. Since I can’t always count that I’ll have enough energy to get what I need done for the day, I try to stay ahead to accommodate my disorder.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love the beach so taking a visiting friend to see the Pacific Ocean would be the first thing on the list! I prefer homemade food over restaurants so a picnic lunch on the sand would be my go to. Depending on if they liked roller coasters as much as I do, I would also take them to an amusement park like Six Flags. Family means a lot to me as well so I would also add visiting them to the list.

I would love to dedicate my shoutout to Jesus Christ. It’s because of his grace and handiwork in my life that I am able to have a social media platform and call content creation my job and passion.
