We had the good fortune of connecting with Saana Laigren and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Saana, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
My favorite affirmation is “if you believe it, you can receive it”. I believe that trusting the process is a mindset that has helped me the most to proceed in my career to become a professional actress. When I trust that whatever needs to happen will happen when the time is right, I have less pressure on the future. It allows me to enjoy every step on my way and to celebrate small achievements. I am enjoying the journey as much as the destination. I feel like when I manage to be relaxed and trust myself and the future, everything seems to be going well with my career. Everything just seems to fall into place naturally. It took me a long time to learn to trust my skills, to trust my craft as an actress and believe myself that I can do this. Ever since I finally decided I am good enough to do this, I am still learning, but I got this, everything has gotten much easier for me.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an actress. I started acting in a theater in my hometown, then I proceeded to study acting for two years in Finland. After my studies I wanted to travel and ended up in Los Angeles. What was supposed to be a short visit turned eventually into two years, when I was accepted into an acting school. I also stayed in L.A for another year to work as a freelancer. I feel like what sets me apart from others is my connection to my emotions. I am an empath and can easily relate to and feel for my characters, and all the humans. It is more of a challenge in the outside world: sometimes I get tears of joy in my eyes when I see a cute kitten or a baby or burst into tears when someone else is sad. I am most proud of my courage to follow my dreams. Of course I am proud of the achievements too, when a movie I acted in gets selected to festivals or I win a prize for best actress at a festival – it feels amazing. But the most proud I am about overcoming my insecurities and being able to live my life exactly how I want to.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Whenever my Finnish friends visited me in LA, I would always take them hiking and to the Griffith Observatory. I am personally obsessed with space, especially the moon, and you can see a piece of the moon at the Griffith Observatory. I think it is the coolest thing ever. I love to shop at Melrose avenue, cause I am a vintage lover and you can also find stores with crystals, candles, incense and stuff like that. I love those stores. I personally like to hang out at NoHo, my go-to place is the Brickyard pub. They have a great selection of beers and playing pool with friends is super fun (even though I suck at it). I also love Malibu. In LA the beaches are must see. I love Mexican food and Sushi, so I always head out to Los Amigos or Octopus in Burbank. However, my absolute favorite place in the whole LA is definitely the Last Bookstore. I love reading and I never leave that place empty-handed.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Marie Senghore, who recommended me to this series. All of my amazing friends, especially Ronja Tammenpää who took most of the photos. My family: mom, dad, Lassi and my brother Erno.
