We had the good fortune of connecting with Sahar Shahabi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sahar, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting my own photography business stemmed from my passion for photography and the desire to turn a creative hobby into a career. I wanted the freedom to explore my unique style and have control over my work, without the constraints of a traditional job. I envisioned a lifestyle that came with flexibility to be there for my boys, and not miss their school events or soccer games!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My photography work is driven by a passion for capturing authentic moments and telling stories through images. What sets me apart is my attention to detail and my ability to create a comfortable environment where clients feel at ease, resulting in natural and candid shots. I’m particularly proud of the relationships I build with clients, allowing me to capture their true personalities and emotions in every frame. Most clients become friends and watching their family grow each year just melts my heart.
The journey to where I am today has not been easy. Starting my own business came with challenges, from learning the ins and outs of the industry to building a client base from scratch. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the importance of persistence and adaptability—learning to grow through setbacks and staying true to my vision, no matter the obstacles. I felt like I had imposter syndrome most of the time, but my repeat customers have built me up so much and I can’t be happier.
What I want the world to know about my brand is that it’s rooted in authenticity, creativity, and connection. I believe in telling stories that reflect real life and celebrating the beauty in every moment, big or small. My goal is to create images that not only capture memories but also evoke emotion and bring people joy.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting Los Angeles for a week, I’d plan a mix of iconic spots, local gems, and unique experiences that capture the essence of LA. Start with brunch at a classic LA spot known for its beautiful pastries and relaxed vibe. Maybe check out Griffith Observatory for stunning views of the city and a close-up look at the Hollywood sign. In the evening we would dine at Bestia, an industrial-chic restaurant offering some of the best Italian food in LA.
We would bike bike along the Santa Monica Pier and Venice Beach Boardwalk and lunch at waterfront restaurant. Spend an evening at Matador beach where I love taking photos. LA is full of creatives—actors, musicians, and entrepreneurs. We would go to local bars and restaurants to meet unique, artistic people.
This blend of food, culture, and outdoor activities offers the best of LA’s exciting, diverse vibe!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My journey into photography began with a heartfelt gift – my first DSLR camera when I was 19 years old, a precious token from my mother. Sadly, she left us too soon, but I find solace in knowing she’d be proud of how far I’ve come. As I capture the beauty of life through my lens, I feel her spirit and love guiding me, turning every click into a tribute to the woman who ignited this passion within me.
I was fortunate to show her my passion and capture her last memories with my children and our family.
