We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Samuel Golpanian and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Golpanian, why did you pursue a creative career?
I think I consider myself very creative in various aspects of my life, not just in my career. For starters, I’m left-handed when I write , and so I’m inclined to think that I’m right hemisphere dominant in my brain. And I think that plays a role in how I see envision things in a spatially oriented manner. I play the piano, compose pieces, and draw/paint, in addition to having a passion for fashion—conceptually, these are less calculated and formulaic but rather more open ended/creative, which I embrace and love doing. I’m fascinated by biology and the way the human body works and changes over time. Medical school for me was transformational and after rotating through the various medical fields I fell in love with surgery, specifically plastic surgery. That’s because this is a field that literally reshapes tissue and requires attention to detail and the three-dimensional understanding of things. I thought that it fit perfectly with my personality and what I’m able to offer patients. Equally important it’s what makes me happy and intrigues me.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
\
Getting to where I am now was not easy at all, or quick for that matter! It required four years of college, four years of medical school, seven years of rigorous general surgery residency training (two of which was involved in stem cell research), and a final three years of plastic and reconstructive surgery fellowship. I devoted most of my 20s and 30s to my career; all for a good purpose however. I believe that for me creating my own brand was necessary to exude my personality and really show patients what I’m all about. I want to provide excellence of care to my patients vis-a-vis evidence-based science, but to also mix in my imaginative and creative capabilities to really tailor to their needs on an individual basis. My brand involves a special concierge feel, because when someone is getting medical care (especially when they’re under the knife for surgery) it can be very anxiety-provoking. I take pride in making my patients feel calm and at ease, not only based on my surgical skills and expertise, but also they deserve to feel at home with a certain pampering luxury. Importantly, my friends and family have always referred to me as sensitive and patient. In my books, that is definitely a key element to implement in my practice to really give a comprehensive service to my patients.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a big foodie as well as a nature person. My itinerary would consist of visiting different areas in California – Big Thur, Malibu, Newport Beach, various hiking trails in Los Angeles, Yosemite park, etc. During the day and then try out different restaurants at night. I love places to eat for dinner like Scopa, Gjelina, Matsuhisa, and even some lower-key places with amazing food like Honor Bar. Of course, playing piano and creating musical pieces is always something I always do and love.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
To be very frank, most of my success I attribute to my parents. They truly have guided me through life showing me the importance of family, discipline, and really how to live a wholesome life stripped of anything superficial. They have been key in keeping me focused and hard-working hard in life but 100% positive at the same time. I have looked up to them since day 0 and will always continue to. I hope to provide my future children with the same guidance and support that I’ve been lucky enough to have.
