We had the good fortune of connecting with Sara Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sara, how do you think about risk?
I won’t lie, I don’t always take risks. Sometimes life is moving too fast and before I know it, months have gone on and I haven’t changed my routine one bit. I read a book a few months ago called “Everything is Figureoutable” by Marie Forleo. I think about that silly statement often. It makes the most difficult tasks seem mundane. Recently I missed an incredible opportunity to meet with a talent manager. I missed the deadline by mere days. I thought about this statement and decided, what’s the harm in asking for an exception? The worst answer I would hear is no. What I found out was that the date to meet with the manager was changed and that I was able to make it! I met with him and truly felt like this was meant to be and I wanted him to represent me. Now, he didn’t end up signing with me, but I’m not giving up! We agreed to reassess in a couple months. If I didn’t take the risk and call, I would have missed this opportunity. This story will only get more beautiful when I end up signing with this talent manager. Look out sir because I’m not giving up!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When I was rejected by the management team even though I knew in my bones that we were supposed to work together, it felt like a gut punch. How can someone I’m so sure about not be so sure about me? This brought me back to the drawing board. While drowning my sorrows in a banana split, I realized this is no time to back off. I need to go full throttle and take this as an opportunity to improve. Why not improve in an improv class? I haven’t taken an acting class in a while, and I have missed it. I left my first improv class holding back tears. I had a hard time containing the pure love I was feeling being in there. I soon realized that this rejection was a blessing. I’m not sure when I would have jumped back into class if I didn’t have this push. Not only am I meeting some incredible people, training and improving, I’m getting to do what I love even if it’s not on a set. My advice to anyone is to not give up even in the face of rejection. If you can so easily walk away, maybe it’s not actually your dream. Because I know that it doesn’t matter how many “no’s” I hear, I won’t stop doing what brings me the most joy in life. There is simply nothing in this world that gives me more joy than this.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My childhood best friend came to visit me from Canada with her husband a while ago. They both said they were down for everything and anything I had planned. So, into planning mode I went. Of course, we needed to start our day off with some coffee. I have a special place that I love called In-Sit right by my apartment. I took them to get my favorite banana iced latte. With caffeine in our systems, we were ready to go. You have to first start with the tourist stuff. It’s a staple and you have to see it. Off to LA we went, running into the typical crazy traffic which was another staple you just need to endure. We went to the Walk of Fame, hiked the Hollywood sign, and went to the Santa Monica Pier. All of which were so much fun to experience together. After being in LA for the day, coming back to OC is always a relief. Something that I have been enamored by since living here is the mountains. For some fresh air and a view, I took my friends up in the hills. We got to pause, get out of the hectic city, and slow down enough to look out and enjoy the sunshine. Food wise, your options are endless. You name it, we probably have it. One of my favorite places we went to was a Mexican restaurant near Newport Beach. It was beautiful scenery with some great food. What’s not to love? A nice end to the night is one of my personal favorites, a bonfire on the beach. There’s nothing like sitting around a fire, enjoying smores, and listening to the sound of the waves crashing on the shore.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My best friend deserves way more than just this credit, but this will have to do. My dearest friend Marissa has done nothing but uplift me. I took new headshots a while back and was nervous on how they would turn out. When I went to her for encouragement, she went above and beyond and took the day off of work to come with me. She didn’t come empty handed either. She knew my fear going into this, that they wouldn’t see my vision and put too much makeup on me or give me a ridiculous hair style. What was Marissa to do? Bring her own makeup and hair products in case she had to take over! We even devised a signal if I was hating what the makeup team was doing but too scared to say it and I wanted her to jump in. She never fails to amaze me. When I filmed my demo a couple months ago, Marissa wasn’t able to make it. Which was probably for the better because even though I want to, I can’t take my best friend everywhere with me. Marissa wanted to hear all about it though. She woke her ass up at 5am and met me at a coffee shop the following day to hear my moment-to-moment recap. She gave me her full, undivided attention while I rambled on for hours. Marissa is a beautiful, shining light that I feel grateful to have the honor of being around. I know that it doesn’t matter if I land the lead role in a feature film or an extra role in a car commercial, Marissa will be there to cheer me on.
