We had the good fortune of connecting with Sara Wynne and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sara, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Controlling the productivity, scheduling, and success of my day-to-day was a huge factor in starting my own business. Before, I was locked down to a 9-5 providing unrelated beauty services in a job I didn’t see myself in long term. Just to have that paycheck in hand every 2 weeks but lack of creativity wasn’t worth it anymore. I needed my daily achievements to reflect where my attention and drive was so I started looking at the numbers. What I would make in a day working for someone else was the same I made with 1 client doing what sparked joy and happiness in my life. Sure, there were days I didn’t have clients but on other days I had a day full of clients so it evened out nicely. While my mother was raising me as a young child I saw how she managed her time between family, work, and friends so it’s been a natural way of life for me to see work and success on those terms, in that way. Now that I am a wife and mother I see how important that balance is. I don’t want to spend all day aiding someone else’s dreams when my own dreams are just as strong. I needed to buckle down with scheduling, creative processes, finances, and what my 3,5,7 year goals would look like.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My drive is to make people feel good about themselves or to see themselves in a way they never imagined before. Because of my need to want to make people feel good about themselves I have chipped away at myself to achieve this goal. Unfortunately as a passionate artist I have found people that try to take advantage of that, as many artists have. To anyone who is reading this and wanting to make a career in makeup I highly urge you to value your time and the impact it takes on your body and your back. I would say limit your discounted work and free services for organizations in the community. This is a luxury service field and many people want the service but at a discounted rate, dont become that type of artist- even if you love to make people feel good.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When out-of-town guests visit me I always treat them to an espresso from Carrara’s Italian pastries first. Once off the plane, we need energy! my favorite brunch spot is at Inn of the Seventh Ray in Topanga Canyon and I like to enjoy an artistic culinary meal at Barton G’s.

California is rich with things to do and places to take in. If money is not an issue then any single luxury hotel’s lounge is a great place for a drink and a bite to eat while people watching. If money is an issue then take to the streets, the beach, the canyons, the iconic Los Angeles landmarks.

No matter what the plans for the week are, taking in an art show opening is by far my most favorite pastime and one I miss dearly since the pandemic has shut so much down.

As a freelance artist, my work has taken me to many different cities and areas throughout California, sometimes in the same day too. This is how I’ve been able to mentally take note of the cool places I see that I want to come back to and visit.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
my clients. In this luxury service field, word-of-mouth travels far. I have worked on some pretty incredible people that have thrown well-publicized events or been guests at popular media-worthy gatherings. When I receive a referral call I am always humbled that in the midst of their evening I am brought up, my information passed on and a follow-up call is made to me. that is what entrepreneurs mean when they said “your referral is the best compliment and show of gratitude”
