We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Abdow and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
The inspiration behind Everyday Eats came from my background as a professional dancer who suffered from gut issues. I needed to learn about living a more balanced life and studied to become an nutritional health coach and personal trainer.

Since changing my mindset and eating clean, whole foods, my health drastically improved and I began to realize that the power of a healthy lifestyle and food choice is empowering. I needed to continue on this path and believed I could help others, too.

I reflected on my time in quarantine when my mom and I spent many hours reinventing our favorite treats. We experimented with replacing traditional ingredients with healthier and more nutritious substitutes.

I knew that together, my mom and I could make bigger things happen and make a difference. After many conversations, Mom was on board and Everyday Eats was born.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We are a mother daughter co-owned company set out to make nostalgic homemade treats that are nutrient dense, gluten and dairy free without sacrificing taste.

We became who we are by learning from the successes and failures we’ve experienced along the way. Our journey has not always been an easy road. We have wasted ingredients, received feedback that wasn’t always positive, and have lost many hours of sleep trying to achieve a better product. But, in the end, we always have a great sense of gratitude when our customers love our treats.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had someone visiting from out of town, we would start our day by catching the sunrise, walking down Santa Monica Pier or Manhattan Beach. We would then grab coffee at my favorite spot, Maru, before hitting my favorite workout class in West Hollywood, Pvolve. Later, we would check out a farmer’s market. My personal favorite is the Brentwood Farmers Market.

For dinner, we would head to one of my favorite restaurants in the city. Perhaps go downtown for Mexican at Damian’s or Kudo for Japanese. We would also need to find time for sushi at either Sugarfish or KazuNori. One restaurant that has a special place in my heart is Carousel in Hollywood. This is a hidden gem, but as someone who’s Middle Eastern, I cannot recommend it highly enough.

We would end the night with a sweet treat from GO Greek, Yoga-urt, or Awan.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Of course, my family and especially my mom, have always been the most supportive in many of my successes. That said, I’ve been fortunate to have met people along this journey who I admire and respect in business. I find myself gravitating towards conversations that make me think about how I could succeed with my company while staying authentic to my brand. I would love to give a shout out to the team at Cha Cha Matcha who gave me the opportunity to develop, collaborate and bake for their LA locations. This opportunity has allowed Everyday Eats to grow in a major way.
