We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Archer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
My business partner, Hannah Best, and I had both been working at traditional PR and social media agencies for a number of years, and during COVID, we both realized we were beyond burnt out and that agency model wasn’t serving ourselves or our clients. Our industry was struggling so much, and we felt like we weren’t able to help in any meaningful way because of the limitations put on us within that agency structure. After (a few) bottles of rosé, we decided to launch Firecracker Marketing. When we woke up the next morning, we had created an LLC, a logo, a website, and a business plan. We really created Firecracker to be the alternative to the traditional agency; we offer the experience, creativity and processes that you would find within that structure, but without the surprise fees, high overhead, unrealistic expectation of our team, and the “say yes to everything, even the bad ideas” model. We always aim to deliver the best and most creative work possible, but not at the expense of our or our team’s well-being.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Wow, this is such a loaded question! I’ll try to keep it brief, but I’m so proud of what our team does, that I may ramble a bit.

Firecracker Marketing is a social media and marketing consultancy, named as such because Hannah and I have been told our whole lives that we’re “firecrackers,” or some version of that. (Not always as nicely!) Our main focus is social media marketing for F&B, travel and beer/wine/spirits brands, which are such incredible, dynamic industries that we’re proud to be a part of. We’ve expanded significantly in our first year, and we now have an incredible, talented team of experts to bring the brands we believe into life with authentic storytelling, strategic marketing and engaging activations.

Getting to where we are today actually feels like a dream. I want to say that it’s been challenging to start a business, and it has been at times, but overall, it’s the best decision I’ve ever made and I’ve never been happier. Hannah is the best business parter anyone could ask for, and our team is truly the best in the business and some of our closest friends. We’re fully remote, so our team expands across the US and all of them have a diverse variety of skillsets and client backgrounds. From leading the marketing of an award-winning restaurant group to waking up at 4am for a wine harvest influencer event to growing the most followed bar on Instagram, we’ve truly done it all.

We work diligently, authentically and honestly for our clients, and while we love what we do, we know that work is not the only thing that defines us. We’re a team that pushes each other to be our best selves, in and outside of the workplace, and I think that’s what sets us apart. We truly care about each other and our clients, but we’re also not afraid to be honest because we just want what’s best for our employees and the incredible brands we work with.

Our motto is “we’re here to make things easier and have some fun together while doing it”, and we try to live that in everything we do.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love LA and have lived there on and off for 15 years, so I could go on forever, BUT these are always my must-do’s (and friends, I’m sorry if I missed anything!):

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Our support system!! We have an incredible team of family, friends, and former colleagues & clients that believed in us from the beginning. My dad is our #1 (unpaid) business advisor, Hannah’s grandma is our legal wizard, Hannah’s husband is referred to by the whole team as our “Firecracker Husband.” We wouldn’t be here without the support of all the amazing people in our lives.
