Meet Sarie Taylor | Psychotherapist & Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarie Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was diagnosed with severe anxiety and panic disorder in my early 20s and ended up being hospitalised. This was the beginning of many many years trying to fix myself and find a way of living without so much suffering. This was not an easy path and I tried almost everything but eventually I was able to understand so much more about what it meant to be human. I was a trained psychotherapist at this point and started to work one to one with clients. Fast forward to now and my business means I am fortunate enough to work as a coach with people all over the world helping them find the same relief I did! You could say my business came initially by accident as once I started to see improvement in my one life I honestly couldn’t have imagined doing anything other than helping others do the same. It has grown organically over the years alongside me.
What should our readers know about your business?
I initially started up my own business if I am honest because I didn’t feel that I would be a good employee for someone else. I was still struggling and off for years with burnout and anxiety and although I would be successful on work and business, I would get to a point where I would be overwhelmed, stop working and then end up feeling like I was starting from scratch again. I feel proud of what I have achieved on a daily basis when I get messages from all over the world from people telling me I have helped them change their loves after trying so many things over the years, they are finally starting to see themselves differently. I used to look back at my hospitalisation and severe anxiety and see it as the worst time of my life. I no longer see it like that. It was also a large part of my success in that it enables me still to have compassion and understanding for those that feel like they don’t have much hope. It hasn’t always been easy and being successful in business really means showing up consistently woven when you don’t feel like it. This is why doing something that you feel passionate about helps because even when I have felt like giving up, my clients and feedback has kept me going even when it has felt tough. I want people to know that no matter what your story or previous experience of life, you too can fall in love with life from the inside out.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is interesting because my answer is so different (and may seem boring to some) compared to how I would have answered years ago. Previously it would have been about the best place, popular places, anything to be seen to be having a good time. Now I would honestly not make many plans. I would wait and see how we feel at the time, spontaneous adventures and connection. The most important thing would be to be present with that person and connect and enjoy each others company. I spent so many of my years realising my enjoyment and joy came from the inside out rather than external things and places and that’s now how I live. I am no longer interested in too much planning or control (it made me miserable) so I am all about lets just see what unfolds!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I could not answer this without mentioning Sydney Banks a welder form Scotland who was the one that initially started to share the principles that I now share with others (and were life changing for me). Sadly Sydney Banks is no longer with us but there is a wonderful community of individuals who now continue to explore, share and talk about what he first pointed to al those years ago. You can look up Sydney Banks online and will see he has a number of books available and also some lectures that were recorded many years ago that he took at www.sydneybanks.com. I have been so fortunate to have a large number of mentors in this area, and still do, but I would always start with the source where possible and the rest will follow!
