Meet Dr. Sasha Speer | Doctor of Physical Therapy

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Sasha Speer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Sasha, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
Wholeness. I believe we are so much more than one thing as human beings, and that we should celebrate that. Each part of ourselves needs nurturing. Our body. Our mind. Our spirit. Our relationships. Our expression. If one is lacking, the whole is lacking and something will be out of order because of it.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Auria Pelvic Health is a physical therapy practice for women. We focus on pelvic health, which includes things like back pain, difficulty with sex, pregnancy, incontinence, prolapse and more.
I was always interested in Women’s Health and began to learn more about it when I was an aide in a PT clinic in college. Once I was in graduate school, I requested to study under professionals with that specialty.
Back then it was so rare. There were only a couple in the Western United States. Now, thankfully, there are more practitioners. It’s such an important piece of health for women. It’s the center of our wellness. It’s crazy to think that it was ignored for so long.
The biggest challenge has been awareness. So many people are silently suffering – or they have been to their doctor who wasn’t aware of pelvic PT or what we can help with. Education is important. We don’t get help if we don’t know there are resources out there.
Part of that equation, is that we help to get to the root of the problem and heal it. We help prevent surgeries and long-term medication use. We improve your quality of life.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I feel like so much in LA has changed since Covid. I live on the Westside and our area has really developed. We don’t have to drive so far now for good food or shopping.
I think a bike ride on the beach path is a must. A slice of pie from Winston’s in the Marina followed by a coffee at Alfred’s.
And why not a boat ride?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My father. He always supported me in whatever I wanted to do. His only question was, “Sash, are you happy?” He passed in 2012 and I still miss that encouragement and support. I didn’t realize how rare it can be until he was gone. It has me appreciate my upbringing that much more and to try to be that person for other people.
