Meet Scott Churchson | Actor & Owner – Stream Punk Entertainment

We had the good fortune of connecting with Scott Churchson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Scott, how do you think about risk?
I’ve often been the type, especially in business, to take the approach of, “Let’s try it. If it fails at least we learned something”. I’ve never been the type to go along with the grain and do what everyone else is doing because that’s what I’m supposed to do. You can’t grow from being comfortable. Only by opting to take a risk and challenging yourself can you become bigger than yesterday. I don’t fear failure, I resent not knowing the alternative if I don’t try. For me coming out of high school being a massively shy, deeply insecure person, every conversation was risk. But from every risk came a small degree of pride for being brave.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
So we’re an online print and digital media company focusing predominantly on sports and entertainment. What excites us most is we’ve only been around for a year and interest has grown mostly through word of mouth and by recommendations which is huge. You don’t get growth like that if you’re not doing something right, so I’m grateful. What sets us apart is our focus on a person rather than a celebrity or an athlete during one of our interviews. Covering things in a way allows us to see the human side of the people we admire.
This is career number 3 for me at this point so I’m fortunate a bit to have experience coming in. I spent 7 years as a financial adviser so my training at being able to talk to people and think big picture helps, thankfully without the constant need to sell and make quota which was brutal back then. So happy I don’t have to do that anymore, but the training helps now. Additionally having been an actor for now 13 years I have a unique skill set that came from there as well when we formed this company..
Both helps also with our team. Every one of them has challenges, fears and worries just like the rest of us. I do what I can to understand that while simultaneously working to grow Stream Punk Entertainment. Team unity is massive. As silly as it may sound, we have internal Facebook messenger groups where they just casually talk and share videos about what’s going on in their respective areas. The last couple days for example was the 2023 NFL schedule videos or Zelda Tears of the Kingdom which just came out. I love that. A phrase I remember back in the day was, “People are far more likely to quit on a boss than they are to quit on a friend.” As a result, they work not for me, but for each other and that’s HUGE.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well I live here in suburban New Jersey where all we have is a few diners, malls and some wildlife so that won’t make for an exciting trip (laughs). However we are a few miles outside of New York City, so there’s a thousand things in and around there. Broadway, Empire State Building, World Trade Center Museum to start things off. Personally when it comes to food there I’ve never been big on expensive eateries, $75 entrees and such. So while you’re in New York, what works for me is the corner locations, the pizza is incredible which is because of the water that comes down from the Catskill Mountains so it’s a must try. But also the local cart places, the Halal carts, bagel places and so on. Back in New Jersey close to Manhattan is the Liberty Science Center where we took our nephew too a few weeks back. There’s a ton of fun things to do there as well. But Ellis Island, Statue of Liberty, Madison Square Garden, the list goes on and on around here.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I think first off I have to give a shoutout to my wife Robin. Over the years she’s become not just my best friend, but also my confidant, my cheer leader and even my sounding board. I owe more than I can repay. Additionally, I want to give a quick shoutout to my mother-in-law Helene, who took her own risk by selling her house of more than 50 years to move in with us. To break out of that comfort zone took bravery!
