We had the good fortune of connecting with Scout Latshaw and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Scout, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
One of the best habits that helped me is being completely dedicated to the goals I set for myself. I’ve always been motivated to grow as an actress, and I never let setbacks or a “no” discourage me. I consider every obstacle as a learning opportunity and a step in the right direction. Another habit that has helped is being willing to take risks. Whether it’s auditioning for a role that pushes me outside of my comfort zone or putting myself out there in new creative ways, I’ve found that you grow when you step out of your comfort zone. Success doesn’t come from playing it safe—it comes from trusting yourself and going after what you want with everything you’ve got.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Acting has never been about just performing for me, it’s about acting out stories people can relate to and make people feel emotions with you.

One thing I am proudest of is The Bike Ride, a film that I not only performed in but wrote and produced as well. It was such a passion project for me, and seeing it recognized in a number of film festivals was incredible. It made me realize that if you don’t see the roles you want, you can create them for yourself.

It wasn’t simple getting to where I am today. Acting is a business that is filled with rejection, and it does take a lot of persistence to keep pushing forward. There were definitely moments of doubt, but I realized that every ‘no’ gets you one step closer to the right thing. The best thing I’ve learned is to trust the process, be tenacious, and always be willing to grow. Whether I’m in front of the camera or behind it, my goal is to do work that speaks to people.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Whenever I’m in LA I like to make time for Regal Live Cinema to catch a film, it’s something I enjoy. I also like to explore different neighborhoods, go to cafés for an iced latte, and find the best local eats. Attending a live play or an independent film is definitely a plus for me, and I try to pack in some time outdoors, whether walking along the beach, hiking in the hills, or just soaking up the vibe of the city. LA has such a lively creative energy, and every visit is a chance to experience something new and inspiring.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
For sure! My biggest shoutout is to my mom. She was an actress in college, and even though she’s a professor now, her love for storytelling and the arts never faded. She’s been my biggest supporter—cheering me on, pushing me to do my best, and reminding me why I’m passionate about what I do. Seeing her passion for teaching and inspiring others has taught me about the importance of hard work and dedication. She’s real-life evidence that one can follow their passion in other avenues, and I think that’s very inspiring.
