We had the good fortune of connecting with Sean Buffington and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sean, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
The value and principle that matters to me most would be perseverance. Today we honestly see the success behind people we follow on social media or people we know of but never really see the story behind the success. Hard work isn’t easy or else it’ll be called easy work, right? I learned at a young age that anything I wanted to achieve in life I had to work hard to achieve. Being an African American man from South Central Los Angeles already placed a stigma on the quality of my work but do you allow that to stop you? Do you allow what other people think or what they created this image of in their head of you stop you? If you do you never will see pass what they think of you. So the real question is, do you believe in yourself enough to persevere? Opposition is apart of the process.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We are in a new wave as everything is not visual content on social media. As a content creator I choose to inspire on social media with inspirational videos.. At times my videos can be humorous or they can be real life lesson Ted talks. I also just last year decided to launch a podcast called “The Buffington Post” that allows listeners to really dive in on issues that my generation deals with in real life. I struggled with my content for a long time because of course you don’t want to duplicate someone else’s platform. I wanted mine to be unique yet captivating. I found out that the people that are drawn to me wanted transparency and truth so I built my platform off of that. Everyday life and everyday truth.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m in love with the city of Los Angeles. I’ve lived here all my life and there are still things that I’ve yet to see while being here 25 years. Personally I love urban shopping so of course I’m taking my friends to the Melrose strip to shop then possibly topping it off with a trip to the grove. I’d take them for drinks and dinner to one of my favorite rooftops EP & LP. Then drive down to Malibu for views. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Your story is never your story alone. With that being said I want to shoutout my mom for her perseverance! She raised four strong children alone. Many days and nights I watched her strength even when she tried to hide how tired she may have been. She never once gave up on our dreams in fact she had to place some of her dreams on hold to invest on ours. A mother’s job is not the easiest and I’ll never not appreciate all of the hard work. I work hard so that mom won’t have to eventually. I give back because that was deposited into me as a kid and young adult. I wanted my mother help so many people, in fact that’s her profession as she advices single parents on the keys to proper parenthood.
