We had the good fortune of connecting with Sean Sobash and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sean, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I’d rather feel the regret of taking a risk and “failing,” than the regret felt of never knowing the outcome of a risk I never took. In saying that I constantly take huge risks, and not all turn out ideally but you learn a lot from every risk and that’s priceless. This goes hand in hand with me not taking life very seriously, and looking at the positive side of experiences.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started playing music with friends from school we had a garage band and participated in battle of the bands at school. I also played at church and in my schools jazz band and youth orchestra. Before I knew it, in my late teens, I was playing professionally for musical theater productions and restaurant bar gigs. I moved two hours north to Los Angeles and started touring with artists and bands. While I miss writing my own material I had to make money to survive and am enjoying touring the world.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I recently moved to the westside so here’s what I do often. Get a bike, and bike on the boardwalk in Venice beach. On the path you’ll see the roller skaters dancing to 70’s & 80’s music at the rink, the skaterboarders doing tricks at the park, you’ll see artists graffiti the walls, the buff guys/girls lift at muscle beach, and the rest of the freak show that hangs down there. When you’ve had enough of that take the path through marina del rey (you’ll see the Venice canals) to playa del rey and stop at Playa Provisions. It’s an unbelievable restaurant, with a whisky bar and coffee / ice cream shop it’s got something for everyone.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Parents Vince and Mitzi. They never cared what I did as long a I did well. They provided love, but made me work for everything else. It’s unfortunate how many parents hold their brilliantly creative kids back. Whether they be musicians, artists, dancers, etc. too many parents selfishly decide what their children “need to do,” to withhold their family imagine. I’m grateful my parents have no egos.
