We had the good fortune of connecting with Sean Toohey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sean, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think taking a risk is a great choice because it pushes you to make the leap and see what happens. If you don’t take a risk you’ll never know if your crazy idea will become real or not. If it doesn’t work out take another risk and try something from a different angle like a puzzle and make it fit just right.
Risk taking in my career has allowed me to discover and create new things to adapt to the business such as making bow ties out of exotic wood and acrylic, as well as making custom shirt buttons and pocket squares.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from everybody in regards to my bow ties and accessories is that every thing is hand made by me.
So all my love and positive energy and heart and soul go into every piece I make.
I’m proud of everything I’ve accomplished so far and look forward to the future where you’ll see my bow ties on billboards and skyscrapers.
I want everyone to know Toohey’s Ties and to spread the word of my work and my products.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh man we are in LA so everything you can imagine is here.
I would definitely take them to In n Out for a burger 🍔.
We would have to visit the Hollywood sign and take them to Melrose to shop and check out the murals around the area.
I would take them out to 71 Above for a amazing view of all of LA. We would go to some great rooftop lounges like Perch or EPLP.
We would of course have to go to the famous Magic Castle as well as checking out the hollywood walk of fame.
One night we would go to Cliftons and would have to show them the secret bar there.
Probably grab a ice cream at Salt and Straw and take him to a few other iconic night spots like No Vacancy and Black Rabbit Rose.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shout out Alex Charles for the opportunity he gave me by referring me to you Voyage LA Magazine.
It’s not what you know in this city it’s WHO you know. I’m proud to know him and have his support.
