We had the good fortune of connecting with Sebastian Watzinger and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sebastian, how do you think about risk?
Risk is an essential part of growth, both personally and professionally. In my 25 years as a film and media composer, I’ve learned that calculated risks often lead to the most rewarding opportunities.

Coming from a family of employees rather than entrepreneurs meant I had to overcome specific challenges. Friends and family didn’t quite understand what I was doing or pursuing, and they found it hard to support me since it wasn’t a secure job. However, my family always did their best to support me, even though it was difficult for them to grasp what I was doing. Their encouragement and belief in me were invaluable, and without the help of my parents, I would never have seen the opportunity to become a film composer.

For the longest time, it also did not look like success at all. Financial struggles were a constant companion. Many times, I was on the brink of giving up and considering working at a supermarket or something similar. But every time I had that thought and discussed it with my wife, a new project would come along and help us through the imminent crisis.

I took that as a sign, after it happened maybe five times, that I needed to be persistent, and overcome my self-limiting beliefs and the odds that were stacked against me. This persistence has been a crucial factor in my journey. The risks I took were not just about projects or financial decisions but about believing in my vision despite the uncertainty and lack of immediate support.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been a film and media composer and music producer for 25 years, and my journey has been marked by passion, perseverance, and faith. What sets me apart from others is my commitment to not only creating music that resonates with audiences but also mentoring and uplifting other music creators.
My path to where I am today has been anything but easy. Coming from a family of employees, I faced the challenge of pursuing a non-traditional career that wasn’t always understood or supported initially. Financial struggles and moments of doubt were frequent companions. There were times when I considered giving up, but every time I reached that point, a new opportunity would come along just in time. This persistence, coupled with the unwavering support of my wife, Charlotte, and my faith in Jesus, helped me overcome these challenges.
I am most proud of the community of composers and professionals in the film and media industry, that I get to be a part of. and the impact my work has had on others. Collaborating with globally recognized brands like McDonald’s, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz has been incredibly rewarding. However, what excites me most is mentoring music creators and seeing them thrive. Establishing additional income streams through sync licensing and education has not only diversified my career but also empowered others to pursue their passions.
The most important lesson I’ve learned is the power of persistence and faith. Believing in my vision, even when the odds were against me, has been crucial. I’ve also learned the value of community and support – both giving and receiving. Surrounding myself with like-minded individuals and mentors has provided invaluable insights and encouragement.
I want the world to know that my journey is a testament to the power of faith, family, and perseverance. My brand is built on the principles of excellence, integrity, and service. I am dedicated to creating music that touches hearts and mentoring others to achieve their dreams. Looking ahead, my vision is to continue growing a strong community of music creators and industry pros and experts, establishing a music production agency for bespoke music, and a wildly successful publishing house. Through these endeavors, I aim to build generational wealth and leave a lasting legacy of creativity and service.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When you’re in Los Angeles, there are a few places I always make sure to take my friends because they just can’t be missed. Start with Musso & Frank Grill – it’s not just the oldest restaurant in Hollywood, it’s like stepping back in time. The history in there is palpable, and the food is fantastic. Right nearby is the Frolic Room, a favorite of mine for its vibrant neon sign and rich, storied past. It’s the perfect spot for a drink and some classic LA atmosphere.

In the Arts District, Wurstküche is an absolute must. Their gourmet sausages and craft beers make it one of my go-to spots for a laid-back afternoon with friends. Then, for a dose of culture and incredible city views, you can’t beat the Getty Center. The art collection is impressive, but the gardens and vistas are what really make it special.

Griffith Observatory is another favorite – the views of LA and the Hollywood Sign are unbeatable, and it’s a great place to spend an afternoon. The Santa Monica Pier is always a fun stop, whether you’re riding the Ferris wheel or just enjoying a walk along the beach.

For a more exclusive experience, Soho House Malibu is a must-see. The coastal views are breathtaking, and it’s the perfect spot to relax. If you’re into literary history, the Thomas Mann House in Pacific Palisades offers a unique glimpse into the life of the famous writer. And no trip to downtown LA is complete without a stop at Tartine. Their pastries are out of this world, and the atmosphere is so inviting.

These spots are my absolute favorites, and I always make sure my friends get to experience them. They really capture the essence of what makes Los Angeles so special.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost, I want to dedicate my shoutout to my wife, Charlotte. She is my biggest fan and has been my rock through every tough situation, both in business and in our personal lives. Whenever things got challenging, Charlotte was there with an open ear, ready to listen and comfort me. Her unwavering support and steadfast presence have been invaluable. She believed in me when I doubted myself, and her encouragement kept me going when I felt like giving up. Charlotte’s love and dedication have made all the difference, allowing me to pursue my passion for music and mentoring with confidence. Her belief in my vision and her tireless support have been the bedrock upon which I’ve built my career and our life together.

Equally, I must recognize the profound impact of Jesus on my journey. Jesus has been the foundation of our lives, guiding us with His wisdom and grace. His presence has provided the spiritual support and strength needed to navigate the ups and downs of life. Trusting in His plan has given me the courage to take risks and the faith to persist through challenges. His teachings have inspired me to serve others through my work and to strive for excellence in all that I do.

Without a doubt, if it weren’t for Jesus and Charlotte, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I must attribute my business success to them, but even more importantly, our success as a family. To Jesus and Charlotte, I owe my deepest gratitude. Their influence and love have shaped me into the person I am today, and I am forever thankful for their presence in my life.
