We had the good fortune of connecting with Serena Dobbie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Serena, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I knew our area was missing a modern approach to real estate. A fresh outlook on marketing a property and on connecting with clients was needed. I was working with a land developer and saw so many people coming in who either were not the target audience for the home or buyers who had no idea what they were getting into. I saw these were huge factors other agents were missing. A) Not understanding that each home has its own story & must be marketed as such to the right audience by utilizing today’s technology and B) Home buyers needed to be educated to feel empowered on the decisions they’re making. I pride myself that I am able to fill that gap while making my approach personable and fun for each client to create a lifelong friendship with each and every one.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
When I started The SDR Group, I saw a gap in real estate in my area needing a fresh modern approach to marketing. I combine the latest in video marketing with creativity in order to capture the right audience for both my brand and my home listings. I saw early on that business is more relationship based than its ever been and I focus on making sure my relationships with clients are lifelong rather than just transactional. I empower my clients with knowledge to know they are making the best choices along the way and in the end know they made the best choice by picking SDR.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ve loved getting to explore different neighborhoods and home architecture through my career. Exploring homes with friends is one of my most fave things to do as every home has its own story and I love seeing what homes my friends lean towards each with their own sense of style.

I’m a big foodie and just love grabbing a glass of wine on a rooftop bar. My husband and I got married in downtown with chef Neal Fraser catering so dining at Redbird is always a super special way to spend an evening. We love grabbing drinks on the rooftop of Perch and doing the Lost Spirits Distillery tour was one of my favorite recent date nights.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would not be where I am without the women I surround myself with on a daily basis. I intentionally keep strong successful women in my life who lift me up. At a young age, I’ve gone through struggles I never would have expected in life and when the days seemed hard, these strong women encouraged and motivated me. They were my first clients who believed in me, the ones who continue to support my business and cheer me on, and seeing each be successful in their own fields, they always push me to be a better businesswoman.
