We had the good fortune of connecting with Sergine Garraud and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sergine, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I chose to pursue an artistic/creative career because it feeds my soul. Im a free spirit whose been singing and acting since I was a little girl.
– My mom was a singer, seeing how she was NEVER scared to perform, inspired me…. A lot.
I really enjoy language, music, film, culture, & travel. All things I get to use in my art/career.
my imagination runs wild & it’s been that way since I was a child…
I was only interested in theatre, choir and Spanish class which got me trouble a lot aha but turns out I knew exactly what I needed and what did not.
I’m an Aquarius, a compulsive day dreamer & I like living life on my own terms, having a say. Creating something out of nothing brings a smile to face, Every time.
creation let’s me breathe, being self employed is is all about freedom for me. free to be myself , free to inspire others with my art, free to connect with source. Free to GROW. There are no limits in the game & that’s my most favorite part.
Seeing beautiful places and beautiful people working with so much passion is indescribable.
there’s no real routine, every set is different, every story is different , every artist, location, even the tools.
it’s a magic like no other. you come together & build something fantastic that can last forever. constantly raising the bar & moving limitlessly
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am most proud of being versatile on set! I’ve been the principal actress, I’ve been the PA, the Photographer, AC/focus puller, writer, I’ve directed a few projects as well. I like to know what’s happening on both sides of the camera so I can better do my job.
what sets me apart from others is my mind, i find the beauty In everything & refuse to leave set without learning something new..
I enjoy shadowing people on set weather they realize that’s what I’m doing or not haha gotta get it in how you can.
I do get excited when people draw me or use my photos for their websites, company promos etc I seen myself lots of places.
I got to where I am today by just keeping my eyes on the prize & never settling or listening to others. nobody can tell you what’s good for you or what you can do besides YOU YOU YOU. Believe that.
I grew up an only child in a small town & always knew I would leave so I was very independent & a lil weird haha Something you need to succeed in this business.
I like challenges,, I like coming up with ideas. It’s not always easy but it’s not impossible either and always worth it.
I overcome the challenges by reminding myself who I am and looking back at all that I have accomplished. My life is soooo different now & I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Do you , for you. always.
I want the world to know that you really can be anything you want in this life. you just have to believe. I have such a strong belief in myself. That nothing could ever change that. Ever
Also I want you to know that you are beautiful, just being you. Your body is a work of art & you are worthy
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
– Ouuu if I had a friend in town I would definitely take them to Santee Alley in DTLA. They have the cutest/unique clothing there that I feel like you don’t find anywhere else & shopping outside is just cool to me haha – I would take them camping in the mountains at Chuchupate Camp grounds, I saw 3 shooting stars up there and I’m still not over it
– I also really enjoy the grand central market located DTLA.
My favorite beach ever so far is El Matador beach , so we would definitely need to get some fun. Haha but ima big foodie so we’d have to try at least 5 restaurants while theyre still over here. Last but not least I’d introduce them to my Haitian friends that I never thought I’d have, coming out here. there’s actually a Haitian community (everyone is mostly in the arts) & Theres a few places to get Haitian food too & kompa lessons. (something I’ve been missing since moving) & I love making people aware of it. slowly but surely it’s all coming together
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My father! I miss you. growing up I thought he was so cool and untouchable. He’s adventurous & daring. He always gave me jewels on how to survive this world and he always made me feel like I could get though anything because he did.
I’m a lot like him. Very intelligent.
he’s the one who made me fall inlove with film., especially action films. & without a doubt, he’s the reason I’m here today
