We had the good fortune of connecting with Serrano Barnes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Serrano, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Honestly, I just wanted to add some flavors to the market. For so long, we have been using the same condiments, sauces and hot sauces. Some give the same flavor profiles and low heart or extra heat and no flavor. We wanted to be dead smack in the center. Creating profiles that are flavorful as hell, but also provide the heat that some folks don’t get from the traditional brands.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well, my day to day is held as a Student Support Specialist for Inglewood Unified School District. But the Sauce and Food aspect of my passion really covers me. I have a very eclectic palette and I think that allows me to be able to create great flavor profiles. I’m very proud of our line up. Very proud to be able to bring Mambo sauce to the west coast. The fact that we have a product that can’t be denied and is slowly taking up more and more space in people fridges and pantries,

We still have a ways to go in regards to popularity and getting in more stores. It has been difficult at times to maintain but as soon I start to think about quitting, an order pops up. So I figured just keep pushing and creating and one day it’ll fall into the right hands and get the recognition it deserves. Point is, I can never give up, folks love the sauces too much.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So I’m a low key type…So I’d have to say… bonfire at Dockweiler, some seafood at the Pier House in Venice. Definitely hitting up Crossroads LA, Donna’s, Pho Daily and Tacos el Parque in Gardena. Central market. 82 downtown. Just to name a few.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The Northstar Market in Gardena, Maurice Wright of Going Live Catering, Andre Collins of Meez en Plaus, Frances Donison of Franny’s Signature Sweets, Mark Watson at GLR Films, Neek Conley of Simply UNeek and my family and my Mother Glo the Supreme.
