We had the good fortune of connecting with Seung Yon Lee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Seung Yon, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
When I was young, I thought work and life should be close together. However, after starting my career, my thought changed. For me, keeping a balance between work and life is important. If you put too much effort into work, your life cycle will be destroyed. On the other hand, if you only care about your life, then your work experience will be the worst. I tried to find a good balance between work and life. My answer is to focus on one thing at a time. Do not think about your life when you work. Do not think about your work when you take a rest. If you keep thinking about the other, then your life cycle is going to be massed. To avoid this, I focus on my work when I work. I don’t think or plan what I’ll do in my free time when I work. Likewise, when I take a rest, I try to not think about my project. This is how I can keep the work-life balance.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m proud of doing what I like. As I studied animation after entering college, I learned that I was able to find what I really liked and that I could be happy with working. Of course, in a society where competition is rampant, it is sometimes a lot of pressure for me to continue to learn and work to beat someone. However, I think it’s great luck to do what I like. What I like makes me happy. But that didn’t mean it was easy to find work in this industry. There are many people in the industry who like this job like me, and furthermore, there were many people with more experience than me. It was a huge burden to get a job as a freshman to society who just graduated from college. But after a few challenges, I met a lot of good people, and as a result, fortunately, I was able to get a job. There is one thing I want to say to people like me. Take pride in doing what you like! One day, the effort will come back.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I like the Huntington Library in Pasadena. This library has a beautiful and wide garden. There are several themes in the garden such as rose, desert, Japanese, and Chinese garden. Nature makes people feel comfortable. This place is nice to get rid of stress!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to send my shoutout to my parent. Thank you so much, mom and dad. I can grow up and get a job in the industry because of your love. I’m so proud to be your daughter!
