We had the good fortune of connecting with Alyssa Quimby, MD and Sara Twogood, MD and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alyssa Quimby, MD and Sara Twogood, MD, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
We are both full time clinical OBGYNs and work in a multi- specialty group at Cedars Sinai. We have listened to patients every day for the last 10 years voice concerns about the lack of accurate, reliable female health information. We eventually came to realize that the time constraints of a doctor’s office don’t allow us to educate patients to the degree they need and want to be empowered about their health. Female Health Education is our answer to this structural flaw in our medical system. We provide online and in person courses and one-on-one consultations for female and reproductive health topics.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Female Health Education is the first OBGYN founded and exclusively run health education company. No, it’s not easy! We are both full time clinical OBGYNs at Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles. This company is the result of years of listening, learning, and creating a resource to take over where clinical medicine falls short. It’s the antidote to the spiral that is Google.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We both live in Los Feliz, so let’s stay on the East Side.
We’ll start with an introduction to Los Feliz with breakfast at Little Dom’s for the lemon ricotta pancakes. A hike up through Griffith Park to the Griffith Park Observatory – there’s a great view of the Hollywood sign and exploring the Observatory inside and out can take an afternoon. Late lunch at Yuca or All Time and a show at The Greek. Also, Skylight book shop.
Silverlake would be on the list – a bit of shopping at a local favorite women’s clothing and gift shop, Lake, and the Clare V original store. A stroll around the reservoir and a stop at Sunset Nursery for the prettiest plants in town (and sturdy enough to stay alive in our office!). Night + Market Song for the best Thai food around. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Our patients – for inspiring us and motivating us to do our best
