We had the good fortune of connecting with Shanee Finley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shanee, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Coming from a lineage of strong women, I naturally felt compelled to empower, support and uplift other women. Therefore I created a business that allowed me to hold a safe space to fully honor a mother’s rite of passage during birth as a Full spectrum Doula, develop personal connection through yoga and meditation and improve overall well-being with body-work and energy-work services.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets my practice apart is the holistic care I provide that encompasses indigenous traditions and evidence based research. To be honest, I got to where I am now by remaining open and just allowing my path to guide me. I was not fixated on finding a purpose but rather focused on showing up each day in purpose, this could be walking the dog, going to a store, or just sitting in nature. I knew everything I did, thought, felt was in purpose. So that was enough for me to trust the doors that were opened and closed along my journey. My purpose, our purpose, I believe is always to serve. How you choose to serve, is your beautiful story that is full of creative intention and potential. I began planting the seeds of my own dreams, passions and visualization, trusting that it will manifest if I continuously nourish them. I want the world to know that my practice is a safe and sacred space for others to BREATHE.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would first take my friend to the desert, as we spend a few days in Palm Springs to enjoy a beautiful oasis then hike at Joshua tree, ending our night at a glam-site under the stars. Then explore the beautiful beaches along the coast, including Laguna beach, lunch at Captain Kidds in Redondo beach, dolphin watch at sunset in Malibu and dinner at Nick’s in Manhattan beach. Another day we’ll hike the Santa Monica mountains or drive an hour north to Ojai Meditation Mount. Ending the trip with a peaceful drive up the coast as we make our way to Big Sur, healing in the hot springs of Esalen Institute.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
SMCDoulas is an amazing birthing organization that I trained with, providing traditional and spiritual perinatal care to expectant and postnatal families, This program was designed specifically to amplify birth workers within the Black community.
