Hi Shannon, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I embrace risks as the gateway to growth and transformation. I firmly believe that calculated risks are essential for achieving meaningful goals, expanding my knowledge, and igniting a sense of aliveness. In 2019 I decided to leave behind my career as a HR executive for tech startups to become a leadership coach and People & Culture Consultant (that’s HR, but better) for entrepreneurs and CEOs, especially those who are often shut out of opportunities. I sought out to spend more time doing what I love most – helping leaders solve problems and grow their business, working with teams to build cohesion and improve performance, hanging out with my kids, and traveling. Founding my own coaching and consulting company demanded daily leaps out of my comfort zone, yet it proved to be an immensely rewarding and successful venture. Every risk I’ve taken, be it in pursuit of learning, launching a business, or fostering personal relationships, has gifted me with invaluable lessons and profound insights. Undeniably, these risks have been profound learning experiences, and while not all have yielded success, each failure has contributed to my growth, resilience, adaptability, and openness to embrace the unknown.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At the heart of our business, lies a commitment to creating exceptional solutions that redefine business norms and elevate learning and experiences. What distinguishes Tandem is our unwavering pursuit of a better world of work, where people and businesses thrive. At Tandem, we believe that true progress stems from the ability to perceive challenges as opportunities and reimagine solutions. Our offerings are tailored to not only meet current demands but to anticipate future needs, ensuring our clients stay ahead of the curve.

I look at the team I have built, a group of true People leaders who set a new standard for our industry and I am immensely proud to be defying expectations of “traditional HR”. We are builders at our core, balancing company and employee needs with integrity. It is not easy to find People Operations professionals cut from this cloth and I am grateful to have found this team and honored they have put their trust in me to grow this business.

Our proudest moments emerge when we witness the transformative impact our solutions have on our clients’ success. We take immense satisfaction in being catalysts for growth, whether it’s streamlining operations, nurturing talent, or fostering strategic shifts. The excitement of these milestones truly propel us forward!

While the path to our current standing wasn’t without its share of hurdles (Covid-19 being one of them), we firmly believe that challenges are vessels of innovation. One valuable lesson we learned early on is that many businesses and leaders often wait until they’re in a tight spot before seeking our guidance. To help, we now work very closely with seed stage companies providing affordable solutions with a huge impact. It’s through these trials that we honed our problem-solving skills, fostered resilience, and learned how best to serve our community of business leaders.
