We had the good fortune of connecting with Sharee Carroll and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sharee, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
One thing outsiders are probably unaware of is how many no’s = a yes the amount of No’s you’ll get could break someone without tough skin. The amour you build over the years was not just given initially. It may take many no’s before finally getting that one yes that can change your life.
None of it is overnight.

Also outsiders are probably unaware of how hard you have to work. Most people only see the final image, so they dont see the backend work. The constant bettering of yourself (since you are your own brand)
It is the hardest yet most fulfilling thing about my career. Is constant self improvement and consantly trying to perfect yourself. Inside and out

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is my baby. I thank God daily for my creative vision. What sets me apart is my authenticity. I saw this quote that describes it perfectly. “Changing the world, without changing myself” Being a model and creative in this world of everyone trying to be like the next person. Authenticity is what sets me apart. I have a natural unibrow, and my entire life i cut it because of being teased by people at school. On my 4th year of modeling, I decided to grow it out and let my true self shine. I feel like ever since I showed up as my true self, my career took off even more. I’m the most proud of that, just letting my true colors shine. Not hiding or changing or molding myself into someone im not, but instead embracing that uniqueness. Like any artist or creative, moving to LA definitely had its challenges especially in the beginning when i was getting my feet wet.
The main lesson is to focus on the flow, not the resistance. So many times I found myself focusing on the No’s that I wasnt allowing myself to be thankful for the yes’s I was getting. I was so focused on the next thing that i wouldnt allow myself to be in the present and look at all what ive already done. That was the hardest lesson, and not comparing your journey to others. Once i mastered that, the journey got smoother, i got to ride the waves and enjoy it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well to start off, i’m a self proclaimed food critic. So all my friends know im the person to ask for the good spots to eat. And being from Louisiana, Yall know im a true foodie! Id start the day in nature, taking them to lake balboa park where we can do the swan boats on the water and just get some nature quality time. Then for dinner id take them to horses on sunset where we can catch a vibe while eating some bomb food & drinks. Then we’d go to an event, (preferably shabba) an afrobeat curated dance night, that only happens every once and a while, So if its a shabba night you know we about to have a fun night. Other places would definitely be the beach, a hike of course, acai bowls and going to some thrift shops! I love putting my friends on to good food and unique pieces of clothing. Our thrift days are so fun! We go in there with no expectation but fun and finding some one of one items. Its always a good time because most of the time I end up styling them and it becomes such memorable moments together. Especially if we are going somewhere later that day. Showing up to the spots looking fly together>>> To end the trip we’d spend a whole day in Malibu at the beach and end the day watching the sunset for dinner!
Some of my favorite LA food spots are: Yxta, Horses, Nobu Malibu, Moonshadows Malibu, Drunken Crab, Muffin Can Stop Us, Bossa Nova, Blasterian.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people that i could thank just simply for the support and connections over the years. but the 1 book that completely changed my life and drive is : Winning by Tim S. Grover. Anyone in any field especially creatives could benefit from the push that this book gives. It’s one of those books you can read over and over. And an amazing gift to gift anyone you love.It was a gift from my good friend Haile Moses. Immediately after i finished i gifted it to other friends who then passed on the tradition. If you are looking for some motivation trust me this is the book you need to give you that extra push!
