We had the good fortune of connecting with Shauna Garriques and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shauna, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk-taking is an essential part of personal and professional growth. Taking a risk is simply making a choice and committing to the challenge. I recently took a few risks: moving to LA from NY, stepping out of the typical 9 to 5, and beginning my journey as a freelance marketing consultant. During this journey, I committed to the challenges, and with each risk, I received an unsurmountable amount of growth, success, and joy. Most times, we can only see a portion of the outcome when we decide to leap, but there’s always more to gain than anticipated when you reach the other side. Of course, there are circumstances along the journey that may evoke doubt and be so daunting that you can’t see what the future holds. However, forward movement is key. It will bring you closer to your heart’s desires. Every day is different – some days you may be unsure of yourself, then other days you’re in flow and feel like the GOAT – but each day, you must choose to take a risk for YOU if you want to see the growth you desire.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from most marketers is my ability to speak to the multicultural and women-focused audiences through integrated marketing strategies. To get to this place, I worked with some of the biggest marketers and creators in the world – Procter & Gamble, AT&T, Edrington, and Constellation Brands and creators such as Queen Latifah, Keke Palmer, Quincy Brown, and more.
Executing campaigns for some of the world’s biggest brands, is a challengingm but it prepared me for the position I’m in today and I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity!
Along the way, I’ve learned the power of strategizing and having a skilled team to help reach the your desired goal. Marketing is an “always-on” career, so having the right people in the correct roles gives everyone the they to operate in excellence.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So, when my best friend comes to visit me in Los Angeles, here is what we’d do to have a great weekend!
When she gets in town on Friday, we’d go out in West Hollywood for dinner and drinks – we may end up at a house party in the Hills – if we’re lucky ;)!
Saturday, our first stop would be Malibu beach! We’d enjoy the sun and sand while catching up under the sound of the waves. Then, we’d have to get smoothies from Juice Bae – https://www.juicebae.la/ and go shopping at Westfield Century City Mall or The Grove.
On Sunday, we’d go to brunch at Harriet’s or have a dinner date at Deliah’s to culminate the weekend.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shout out to my EGAMI Group family! I am forever grateful to them for trusting a 22 year old to lead them to success in every campaign. Also, for empowering, teaching, and supporting me when I began my marketing journey. They were there for me during each big risk I have taken on this journey and I have no doubt they will continue to support me on my life’s journey.
