We had the good fortune of connecting with Shauna Haider and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shauna, what role has risk played in your life or career?
To me, taking risks in business is 100% necessary. What I’ve learned over time is that when you are willing to go all in and take a big leap, the universe rewards your commitment and meets you halfway. Even when you can’t predict the landing, somehow things always work out.

All of the good things I’ve had happen were the other side of taking a big, scary risk. My advice is to always trust yourself and trust the universe. Your future self is waiting on the other side and what’s worse? Not making a move and being exactly in the same spot a year from now or taking a chance and stepping into massive growth?

What should our readers know about your business?
I’m the founder and Creative Director of We Are Branch, a boutique design studio based in Palm Springs. We focus on strategy, branding and web for personality-led businesses who want to stand out from the sea of same while growing their brand to new heights in an authentic, aligned way.

I had quite a winding path to get to where I am today but I wouldn’t change any of it. Every step along the way taught me something really valuable that directly reflects in the way I live my life and run my business today.

I didn’t know that graphic design was a career path when I was in school and it took me a long time to figure it out (with a few stops at college along the way). When I finally discovered that I could combine my love of art, personal style and entrepreneurship into a career that directly impacted the success of other businesses, all the pieces clicked into place and I never looked back. From my first day of design classes in a community college program in 2006, I knew I’d found what I’d been searching for.

I worked at a bunch of design studios and agencies for the first 7 years of my career and really learned the ropes of what it takes to deliver consistently at a high level. There were plenty of all nighters (and mini meltdowns) in those years but I knew I had to keep going because there would be something even better on the other side.

In 2013, I transitioned into being self-employed and launched my studio, We Are Branch. Getting to do what I love every day as we partner with clients around the globe is something I really value and never take for granted.

What I learned along the way is that you don’t need to have everything figured out and you don’t need all the answers; you just have to be willing to stay open and curious. Keep showing up, even when things feel challenging because there’s something greater in store for you.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love calling Palm Springs home, it’s my favorite spot on the planet!

The places I’d take a best friend are varied but always unique and intriguing:

Walks through the neighborhoods including Vista Las Palmas, Twin Palms, Indian Canyon, Deepwell, Movie Colony, Old Las Palmas (and a few others if we have time!) to admire all the great architecture.
