We had the good fortune of connecting with Shawntay Dalon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shawntay, how do you think about risk?
Well, I think where I am and also where I am not, is a result of my risk taking. Me moving to L.A meant I had to give up my gated midtown apartment, that I loved. I let go of my own to move into a place with eleven other strangers, sleeping on a bunkbed. Some folks thought I was crazy. But I believed. Moving to L.A meant looking at my bank account and knowing that, there’s a very good chance that those funds could be gone in a matter of six months, unless this dream panned out. I got a job washing dishes at a restaurant to make sure I stayed above my bills. But because of my Faith in God, I had Peace. Because I know who got me, I know who lead me. So I believed no matter what happened, it will work out. Now- I have my own apartment. And my work is my career. My passions. You gotta take risk.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Thank you.  I have my new drama/ suspense short film “Booked”. Which will be released in festivals Fall 2021. And I also did something that I didn’t think I would do… I wrote a book. I actually wrote it during quarantine , 2020. But only recently had the courage to send it over to my editor. It’s a guide for actors, encouragement for survivors, and secrets revealed for the nosey. But most of all, it’s healing. And that is what I feel we all deserve.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Pre Covid & Post Covid are different itinerary’s. But the now? I would first take her to – for a nice walk and beautiful scenery. I love sitting on top of the hill and looking over Hollywood. It is so freakin beautiful. Then, I will of course treat our nice walk with a cake milk share from The Milk Bar. I love those! And I would stop down the street at ONE CHURCH for some amazing word from Pastor Toure Roberts & First Lady Sarah Jakes Roberts. After some good church, we share go right down the street to PINK’S with their loaded hot dogs, chili cheese fries, onion rings,.And to top off the evening, we will then most likely catch a dope concert at the Rose Bowl.

BOOM! That’s sounds like a date I’mma give to myself!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

I want to bring light to every Survivor. Be it from assault, police brutality, abuse, systemic racism, grief, disease, whatever…Shout out to you. We just went through a life-altering year. And we are still here. But that doesn’t mean we don’t have bruises. We lost loved ones. We lost jobs. We lost safety. And some unspoken truths is that those who used the world to escape from ‘in home abuse’ had no shelter. Those trapped in sex trafficking? Hardly no one speaks about them. And it’s my passion to bring this evil to light so we can stop it. Which is why I wrote  “Booked”. Which brings to light the Sex Trafficking in our neighborhoods and also in our entertainment industry.

Amazing actors, Ozjalai Adams, Marcus Woods, Sylena Rai, Fana Tesfagiorgis, Andrew Lloyd Preston, Jezar Riches, Pamela Parks Henry, Brielle Costello, Brian Taylor, Sean Vaughn, and so many more. These are not only incredible actors who you need to know. But they are selfless & have a heart to want to help these victims. Shout out to all the cast & crew a part of this.. My Co Execute Producer, Kimmy Jean. Krishawn Peace who is one of the best wardrobe stylist & set designers I have ever met! Our Director of Photography, Sean Snider, and our freakin dope director, Ryan D’Silva. Them and a lot more cast & crew who aren’t mentioned are all making sacrifices & taking out time to bring this story to life. Whew… wonderful team. I’m Thankful.
