We had the good fortune of connecting with Shedell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shedell, why did you pursue a creative career?
I honestly wouldn’t know what else to do. I have all these thoughts and emotions that want to find there way out of me and acting has been my greatest opportunity to do so.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Let’s be honest, nothing is easy for a Black woman. I got to where I am by studying my craft learning from my mistakes and sticking to my boundaries in regards to which roles I am willing to take on. I am a fan of sci-fi and fantasy, genres with very little Black representation. I have been and will continue to craft a career that creates space for me in those genres.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ummm I have no idea lol, I need someone to do this for me. I will say that Sugar Taco on Melrose is the best spot for vegan tacos.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
100 percent my child. They were the one that motivated me to start acting, they read for all my auditions, tell me when my self tapes are crap, and they cheer the loudest when I win. I honestly feel like their presence gives me an edge in this industry.
