We had the good fortune of connecting with Sheila Galmat and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sheila, what are you inspired by?
I think that to me, everything that my life is, is so much inspire. I mean, the weather, the people, the colours, but above all the moments that makes me feel something.

I think that I’m a very sensitive person, that my center is about the emotion in my life, happines, angry, sadness, melancoly. And talking about melancoly it’s the queen of my emotion, for me is the motor of my art, about my inner child and my adult life.

I think that in the moment that I decide that I want to do this (my art or personal proyect) part of my process to find myself is thrue the melancoly, that feeling makes me feel alive, embracing my live and my experiences and all the thinks that I am. I think that someone in the world could be feel represented by my art.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think that one of the most important thing to my during my process is believe in the my
knowledge, pushing to do it better every single time.

Part of my process to create is building a concept by the character, I think that every draw or sketch have live and they have thinks that love or hate, building their personality es par of my process to enbrace all the parts that do the character what they are. For a long time ago, that part of the process was feels strange and awkward. I feel that I’m a very sensitive person, so I agree a lot of emotions to my art and the way I insert that in the process.

To me is important to be, for make something that makes me feel happy with the result. Part of my process to make it, is to draw every single day no matter what, trying to connect with.

One of the most important things that I felt worried about is to find my style and feel comfortable with, and now I know that is part of my, every single creative person, they is one with their art. For me is connect with that part of me, the thinks I am and the thinks I thougn. Every single once you recognize the things that you like, that make you feel or get excited, the colors, the shapes that you feel comfortable with. You can find part of what your style is in conjunction with practice and learning techniques. Learn the rules to break them and find yourself to know what you want and what you are.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am definitely a person with quiet life plans haha, I think I would recommend taking a walk around the city with a pocket sketchbook and a camera, taking photos of the corners of the city and resting a little in a coffee shop with a refreshing drink. Draw for a while and maybe have some ramen to top off that day.

I consider myself a big fan of dating myself, to get to know myself better and learn more about what surrounds me. It’s definitely something I would love to recommend to everyone. My top 5 places could be, a museum, aquarium, the street, my favorite ramen in the city with comfortable food to give a hug to your heart and maybe an ice cream.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
To all those who have believed in me and my potential from the first moment, in each beginning, in each project, in each recommendation, in my discovery and day by day. All the love for everyone, only love for each one.
