Meet Shelli Bradley | Wardrobe Stylist/Costumer/Creative Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shelli Bradley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shelli, how do you think about risk?
Risk taking is what life is all about. If you do it or don’t do it, you’re taking a risk right? So you may as well take the bolder risk. I remember working retail in 2014/2015 while I was pursuing my styling/costume career in tv/film and it was very hard holding down a full time job and trying to do some freelance work to help me get experience. I just couldn’t do the four walls anymore, so I gave my two week notice with no other job in sight other than a very part time job that I had which barely paid for anything. I prayed about it and meditated on it and let it go completely. Was I nervous as hell, yes, but what other choice did I have but to play it safe. I knew it would work out because it always does as a great friend once told me and I’ve kept that in my head since. Well low and behold, as soon as my job ended, I received a call to work on my first show full time as a Costume PA. That was the beginning of many great things to come for me.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am a creative that has a business in several different creative areas. I work as a Stylist for red carpet looks, events and also as a Stylist on commercials and promo shoots.
I’m also the Creative Director for MMH (Mykal Michelle Harris) where I help to design my clients upcoming clothing line for tweens/ teens.
Lastly, I have a Rental Showroom where I rent out clothing, shoes and accessories to Stylists and the TV/Film industry for red carpet, event, commercials, tv shows/movies, etc.
I am very passionate about what I do and I take pride in it. I eat, sleep and breath all things fashion and I’ll go the extra mile for my clients. It’s all about the bond you build with your clients and the trust. I am all about the details of an entire look and it shows in the final look and the joy in my clients face. That’s what I do it for, for them to have confidence in knowing they are their best selfs no matter what and the clothes just adds to that.
LA is a hustle, so I am where I am today by taking the non-paid gigs for what felt like eternity, lol, but it paid off. Those gigs helped to build relationships and plant seeds for future work. It was not easy at all because I was mostly broke while doing this and how I did it was that I just knew it wouldn’t last forever and that my hard work would one day pay off. It may sound cliche, but I knew it would work out. I’m always optimistic no matter the circumstances. Definitely had my days because I’m human, but I could see that I was building with every gig that I took. There is no room for ego no matter how old you are. Just keep your head down, do the work and watch the how your life will flourish.
My brand is edgy, sensual and classy all wrapped up in one. I love to work with people who aren’t afraid to take risks in what they wear as far as styling goes. My showroom is a newer business for me, As I stated before, I rent out clothing, shoes and accessories for the entertainment industry, but what’s unique about my showroom is that I’m size inclusive. Most showrooms carry mostly sizes 0-4, maybe a 6. I cater to men and women from size 0-3X. I think it’s important to make everyone feel as though they matter and are seen.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Eat: Nobu Malibu (the food is so yummy), Dave’s Hot Chicken (it’s basic food, but the chicken sandwiches are bomb), Blue Ribbon Sushi at The Grove in LA (delicious), Sweet Chicks (great, simple comfort food), Seabird (it’s vegan, but soooo good), I could go on and on…
Drink: Joey’s DTLA, The Well in Hollywood, Cafe Fig DTLA (great appetizers too).
Visit/Hang out: Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, a play at the Pantages, wine tasting in Temecula, Jazz in the Park at LACAMA (during the summer), Disney Land/California Adventure.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents are my support system. They are 100% behind me in whatever I do. They may not understand what it is that I am doing, but they have my back. There’s never been an “oh you shouldn’t do that as a career”, ” you can’t sustain yourself doing that as a career” and so on. It’s my life and they support my decisions. They are the greatest parents and gift I could have ever asked for!
