Meet Simone Bonét | Professional Violinist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Simone Bonét and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Simone, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Me personally, when it comes to risk taking, it’s more of an after thought. That probably sounds reckless, but if I’m extremely passionate about something and I have it in my head that I can achieve that goal, I’m going to do it without any question. If you ask anyone who’s close to me, I’m the queen of risk taking especially when it involves my career. To get where I’m at in my career at this very moment required a lot of that. I’ve had to make decisions that I was not 100% sure what the outcome would be and that’s scary as a young black female musician. My mom always used to tell me growing up that “closed mouths don’t get fed” and she’s absolutely right. What is the worst that anyone is going to say, no? The word “No” doesn’t bother me at all, makes me want to go even harder to get that “Yes” That’s the mindset I have when it comes to music.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think what sets me apart from others as an artists is that I’m not afraid to try different things. I experiment with different genres of music on my violin that people wouldn’t expect to hear. I started off performing and jamming with reggae bands, which no one had ever done. I’m most proud of how far I’ve come since I started playing professionally and beyond excited about the future. Everything I have done thus far, I’ve done on my own. I don’t have a manager, agent, or publicist so I had to really put myself out there in order to be seen. Whether it was making covers on social media of my favorite artists and tagging them or going to shows in LA and meeting artists and introducing myself. I’m very outgoing and not a shy person whatsoever so I can make conversation with almost anyone I meet. Not everyone has the confidence to go to a show by themselves to try and network, that’s where I thrive! It was not always easy and I most defiantly had moments where I just wanted to give up because things weren’t going as I saw them in my head. I still feel that way from time to time, but I’m so beyond passionate about playing I feel it in my bones that this is exactly what I’m supposed to be doing. I want the world to know that I am a lover of all music. I have some projects in the works that I don’t think any violinist has ever tried to my knowledge and can’t wait to share! When people think of my brand, I don’t want them to think of me as your typical classical violinist. I’m wild when I’m on stage and just love to have fun while I’m performing and plan on taking the violin to heights no one has ever seen in their life!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The thing I love about Los Angeles is that there is so much to do, sometimes it gets overwhelming! One thing I’m great at is eating so we would be tons of that. Joey DTLA is such a fun vibe to eat and drink at in LA. I have a friend Justin Cox who puts on these amazing events that are always fun with friends, Trap Poetry Jam, Melanin Day Party etc. Those events are always fun because you meet all different walks of life. I would also take them to shop on Melrose they have so many vintage shops and its the best people watching. I live in Long Beach, Nicks on 2nd is my top favorite place to eat along with The Attic. Those places are also walking distance so its nice for me because my neighborhood is so cute right along the beach.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family is the strongest supportive system anyone could ask for! I come from a huge and beyond loving background and I don’t know how I got so lucky. You will always hear me sing their praises whenever anyone will listen. My mom and dad who have been there from the beginning at the age of 9. My sisters (The Dolz) who act as my managers, accountants, stylist, just overall any and everything I need they have my back. My brothers whom I love so much, always rocking my Merch, or sharing my music. Actually one of my brothers, Kourtney, is my Dj(Shoutout Dj KB!) so that’s always fun throwing ideas with him and gigging. Hopefully there will be a lot more of that in 2023! I also would like to give a shoutout to some of the bands who gave me an opportunity to show my talents at the beginning of my career. Bands like Fortunate Youth from SouthBay, Iration, Grammy Award winning reggae artists SOJA, Tribal Seeds from San Diego and Rebelution. Those group of guys and their camps have always shown love and allowed me to perform for their fans. The industry is ruthless so when I come across genuine human beings who are supportive, I always try to express my gratitude.
