We had the good fortune of connecting with Simone Broadus and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Simone, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?

I always wanted to start my own business, I just didn’t know where to start. I found security in working a 9-5 which began to hinder my dreams and goals. When the pandemic hit in March 2020, I lost all my job(s). I was devastated, scared, and felt hopeless. I had just gained my independence and moved out of my parents home. I had steady work, and then Boom, it was gone.

The pandemic forced me to slow down and reflect on how I envisioned my life moving forward. My happiness mattered. I thought about my passions, my dreams, and college degree. I had to figure out a plan to achieve all that I hoped for. One day I told myself, “have faith that things will work out, start your business”! I literally started promoting my fitness business on Instagram. I didn’t have it all figured out yet, but I knew I had the tools, the drive, and the education to promote myself. I took a risk, stepped out on faith, and wasn’t afraid to ask for help. The covid shutdown had to take me out of my comfort zone to go into business for myself. Now I am doing what I absolutely love. I am a personal trainer and business owner that is making a positive impact in her community.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

I received my degree in Kinesiology – Pre Physical Therapy from Humboldt State University. I have always been fascinated with the body and how it functions. I always knew I wanted to support my community through health and fitness.

What sets me apart from other trainers in this industry is my rehabilitation experience. I have assisted many physical therapists in several rehab facilities. I assisted in restoring, maintaining, promoting wellness, and physical health. The duties as a rehab aide are very closely related to those of a personal trainer.

What I love most about my career now is that I implement those same skills I learned working as a rehabilitation aide. My goal is to contribute to prolonging and educating my clients on living a healthier lifestyle.

Today I am most proud of starting a business during a pandemic. Fear did not stop me. Lack of knowledge did not stop me. Doubters did not stop me. I took all the knowledge I learned from past experiences and poured that into my business. I have a successful business today,  just by doing it! You can not be afraid of failure, because failure leads to the road of success.

Starting a business will teach you your worth. It will also teach you how to think as a business owner. I have learned to stop taking things so personally. I have learned that at the end of the day, I will do what is best for me and my business. I have learned that having a business will teach you what works for you and how you can better serve your clientele.

What I would like the world to know about me is that I am passionate about my community living a healthy and fulfilling life. I will use my platform to teach my community the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle. You deserve to look good and feel good!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a friend come into town to explore LA I would definitely take them to these food places; Roscoes on Pico, Simply Wholesome, Stuff I eat, Hot n Juicy, Armani’s Experience (iykyk), Rush Street, Hill Top, Fiesta Martin, Bayou Grille, and District by GS.

Places we would go include; San Diego, Leimert Park, Kiss n Grind, Monday Night Vibes (karaoke), the Broad Museum, CAAM’S, The Getty ,Farmers Markets, Arts District, Runyon Canyon, the Observatory, Eaton Canyon, Culver City Stairs, Universal, and Six Flags.
