We had the good fortune of connecting with Siobhan DeVaughn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Siobhan, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Motivated by women in entrepreneurship, I created bySio with the intention of inspiring others to find the courage to build something of their own. Women who’ve paved the way for many, like myself, continue to set the bar high in the industry, which drives me to hopefully do the same for others.
I decided to create scents based on the essence of women who continue to inspire me day after day.
What should our readers know about your business?
I started bySio with the intention to inspire others to build something of their own. For many years, I definitely let self doubt hinder me from going for my dreams of becoming an entrepreneur. But once I built the courage to just “START” and “KEEP GOING”, I was so surprised with what I was able to create.
I think it’s important for people to know that they’re not alone in the process. Majority of entrepreneurs have been in the same boat of doubting themselves at one point or another. For that reason alone, I wanted my brand to really shed light on the process of becoming a business owner and to have the courage to keep moving forward.
I’ve curated scents based on the essence of women who’ve inspired me, whether they’re entrepreneurs or have been at some point in their lives. I believe seeing someone go for their dreams is so inspiring which is the one thing that pushed me to just go for it when creating bySio!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Growing up in New York, there’s always something to see and experience! I would definitely take my friend on a walk throughout the beautiful streets of Brooklyn, particularly the Prospect Park area and the Piers of Dumbo.
There’s also so much great food and shopping so I would love to take them to some of my favorite restaurants and shops of the city, such as the Leroy House, Lola’s, Dante, Soho Grand and many many more!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a huge shoutout to my family and friends, who’ve been extremely supportive throughout this process of building my brand. I honestly wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for them pushing me to never give up and keep going!
