We had the good fortune of connecting with Sophia Dubuisson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sophia, what role has risk played in your life or career?
My personal philosophy is; the person who doesn’t take risks has nothing to loose but also nothing to live by. Risks can be very scary. I took a leap of faith with my art career, the risk of failure was equal to the risk of success. Knowing i took that risk i was able to sleep at night knowing that at least i tried.
Because there is no guide on how to “life” risks are the way to live by.
I choose to make the risk of success greater than the risk of failure, (it doesn’t always happen) but I’ve made it this far by take a lot of risks
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a Black woman in America i came to the realization that we are very undervalued. Through my art i want to shine light on the beauty of people of color. I use my talent as a way to express myself, i find inspiration in everyday things that have become a part of my routine and that i also know many people will be able to relate to such as a still life of my bathroom countertop with all my haircare products. To say that i got tho where i am was easy would be a lie but I didn’t recall it being hard because most of the work is done with joy so it never felt like a burden. The hardest part was consistency because i have to jugle between life and many other stressful outside factors.
Along the way i learned that a positive mindset will help along the way mixed with consistency and hard work.
I am not where i want to be just yet but I know i am on the right path and drifting along the river of life as best as i can
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are a couple of people who helped me get to where i am right now. Sha and Ricardo Voltaire , Jaime Herrera ,Dahyna Prophete, Stephane Schutt and all my close friends
