We had the good fortune of connecting with Sophia Gouirand and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sophia, how do you think about risk?
Risk taking is what brought me here today. It pushed me to leave a stable, but unfulfilling career in law enforcement and pursue my passion of baking which led me to start my own business, Chochi’s Sweets. Risk taking keeps me on my toes and it helps me to push myself outside my comfort zone, challenging myself to do things I never imagined I would do to better myself.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
In May of 2020, I started Chochi’s Sweets. Chochi’s Sweets is a home based bakery located in Yorba Linda, CA. I specialize in custom decorated sugar cookies, cakes and bite size desserts for all events. A client comes to me with a vision or a theme and I make it happen. I love seeing my clients’ reactions when they see the edible art I have created for them. This exact moment is why I do what I do; I get to help people…with food!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a BIG foodie so I would definitely take my best friend to all the good food joints and breweries such as The Bruery Terreux in Anaheim, with all of their amazing assortment of beers. I would take her to get some good authentic Mexican food at El Pueblito in Placentia, some fresh sushi at Fish in a Bottle in Placentia, and some good pizza at Out of the Park in Anaheim. We would also go see some of the missions and do a mini road trip up northern California. Along the way, we would stop by Solvang and have some amazing Danish pastries. We would visit San Francisco, and have some clam chowder at Fisherman’s Wharf.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Of course my family and friends. But a special shoutout to my husband, Matt, for being there for me through the highs and lows. For always believing in me when I didn’t and for pushing me to go out of my comfort zone to better myself.
