We had the good fortune of connecting with Sophia Knapp and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sophia, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I grew up in Irvine, California surrounded by beauty professionals and creatives. My father Barry Knapp was a hairdresser for most of my childhood until he shifted into the medical cosmetic space when he founded Oxygenetix. My grandmother was at the forefront of color analysis, helping people utilize the Blue Base/ Yellow Base Color System in their wardrobes, homes, and businesses. Today I have the privilege of working for Oxygenetix, aiding in the creation of new innovative products, and with my grandmother bringing color analysis to a new generation of people. Growing up in the beauty industry with such creative people influenced the way I think and what I am passionate about now.

What should our readers know about your business?
The idea for Oxygenetix happened when my grandmother Renae had a horrible chemical peel that left her skin raw for weeks. My father came up with the idea of medical makeup, a foundation that breathes and is safe enough to put on compromised skin. What gets me so excited now is how we have expanded to be available to the everyday consumer, not just those needing camouflage after a cosmetic treatment. People are now enjoying Oxygenetix products as a healthier alternative to everyday makeup. I love the fact that our products can be used by those who really can’t wear anything else, giving people with acne, rosacea, and sensitive skin a safe makeup option. No matter what our company goes through we always find a solution and people keep coming back for more. We have a team of people who won’t give up, for example even when times were tough during COVID, we were able to pivot and grow our online presence which has expanded our reach even more.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a friend visiting me here in SoCal I would take her to Crystal Cove for a light hike and to eat at the Beachcomber watching the ocean waves. We would walk the streets of Laguna checking out the art and boutiques, and dance the night away listening to live music.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Big shoutout to my father Barry Knapp who showed me that anything is possible. He was a creative genius who never gave up on his dreams and I am so proud to be caring on his legacy with Oxygenetix.
