We had the good fortune of connecting with Suvi Music and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Suvi, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
I’ve always been very certain about being my own boss. But what I didn’t know until recently that has contributed so much more to my brand is how important it is to be your own best ally. As someone who is constantly chasing perfectionism I used to be very hard on myself. But the moment I had that realization, it immediately translated into this overwhelming sense of drive and motivation; just a simple thing like, knowing that I had my own back no matter what, gave me an all access pass to achieve anything I set my mind on and no matter the outcome, the process became so much more fun.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think in my story, art found me. It always entwined my life as a child but as an adult. At 18, I practically fell into a record deal with Sony Music India. I was on the path to becoming a Forensics Engineer with my degree in Biotechnology. But here I was, in the beautiful embrace of music and I could never turn to look back anywhere else since. Also, a lesson I learnt very young, the forces of the universe will always clear the path to your destiny, and all we needed to do is to align ourselves with our destiny through practice, preparation and patience. With this motto in mind I’ve learnt to embrace the creative process of everything in my life including my music. SUVI as a brand represents the idea of being your own best ally! Love yourself enough to be boldly and beautifully yourself. Every waking day is a challenge, but what’s the point of all this complex DNA structure in us if we can’t tackle a challenge? 🙂
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spot in LA has to be Resident DTLA. I love performing as well as hanging out there. This place is literally my residence.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Two people who have had my back no matter what are, my husband Daniel Lee, who’s a Live Sound Engineer and does everything I got going on with technical stuff and offers different perspectives when I need it the most; the other is Salma Habib. She is my manager, best friend, advisor, booking agent, healer and everything. My brand would be nowhere without these 2 individuals.
