We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Dortch and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicole, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind starting my business was “it’s now or never”. I had the experience, resources, plans and ideas, the missing element was time. Between balancing my career and life, I was unable to give my business the proper time and dedication required. In order to cultivate my dreams and make it a reality, required sufficient time and COVID provided that opportunity.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As the CEO of Madam CFO, Inc and Petit à Petit Lingerie, I am the brains behind the operations. Madam CFO, Inc. is a financial management and strategic planning consulting firm, assisting small businesses and individual clients with real-time strategies to improve decision-making and growth. Petit à Petit Lingerie is a luxury intimate apparel retail store for women and men.

What sets the business apart from others, is the individual hands-on experience, our ability to provide real-time solutions, and customary services to our clients. If you asked how the business got to where it is today, previous business development ventures, education and training, exposure and networking, and the tenacity for growth and change. When you decide to invest in yourself, challenges and obstacles will arise. When I experienced challenges, I tackled them head-on and considered them learning lessons and opportunities to implement new processes for success going forward.

If you asked “what are the lessons I learned along the way”, the most influential lesson I’ve learned is to not be afraid of your own potential and you are your best PR agent. Your success is determined by your actions and behaviors, to have a brand you believe in requires a tremendous amount of self-worth, determination, dedication, and patience to see a project completed from start to finish.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting the area I would have them stay at the Hilton Norfolk Main Hotel. We would dine at Cork & Co. Wine and Martini Bar for the best five-star brunch. Order the blackened salmon and lamb chops with eggs, include a side of french toast for each, and all we can drink mimosas (responsibly). Next, we would walk over to Sugar and Grace Candles to make our own luxurious scented candles. Ride the City’s electric scooters and bikes, along Norfolk’s Waterfront area to view the beautiful Naval ships, Town Point Park, and Waterside Marina. Schedule a Naval Base cruise to see destroyers, submarines and other vessels. Visit the Hermitage Museum and Gardens art exhibitions, gardens, and grounds. Afterwards, we would travel to Virginia Beach Oceanfront for dinner, while enjoying beach activities and games. Lastly, we will fest on a delicious creation from Orion’s Roof Garden and Dining Restaurant. We would order Oysters on the Half Shell and Conch Ceviche for startes, followed by the Orion’s House Salad, the main course would include the Grilled Local Rockfish and Duck Breast, and the grand dessert Siganture Cavalier Mile High Cake and Dragon Fruit Vegan Cheesecake. While the Hampton Roads area, have some many exciting places to visit, we can’t forget to add in a Spa Day at the Flowering Almond Spa and a trip to the Williamsburg Winery and Golf Club.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First, I would like to thank my family and support system for always encouraging me to follow my dreams, supporting my many business ventures, and pouring wisdom and knowledge into me. Secondly, I want to thank the residents and visitors of the City of Norfolk for supporting Petit à Petit Lingerie Boutique. Lastly, everyone I worked with throughout my career, clients I have helped, and lives I changed in the processed.
