We had the good fortune of connecting with Speak Easy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Speak, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
How much goes into our process of bringing ideas to life outside of time and money. There are considerations at every turn if you want to be a successful creative organization. Not only do you want to create good music and have lots of people enjoy it, you also want people to come to shows, buy merchandise, share your content and do marketing work for you, etc. It takes an enormous amount of patience and attention to dig into your niche and develop as an artist/band, and it often requires a lot of sacrifices to be made in your personal life to keep the creative machine turning.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We thankfully find many opportunities to be silly and goofy with our projects, from creating advertisements for brands to promoting our own events and releases. Our fans now recognize and encourage our looseness and we often deliver absurdity. The ability to market ourselves in a personal and honest way has taken a while to get down, and while we still feel like our brand is far from maturing, the process of creating funny, relatable content has been a blast and only enhances our musical efforts.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The Floridian Social Club is one of our favorite places to play and get a drink at. Central Avenue in St. Pete is home to dozens of amazing restaurants of nearly every cuisine. Red Mesa and Bodega are frequent visits for Latin food. Our beaches and parks rarely disappoint for hanging, and we have a number of great museums and art galleries.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We really have to thank the countless Tampa Bay bands and organizations that have given us a chance over the years. We’ve received so much love and opportunity from the area, it’s hard not to attribute some percent of our success to local figures and leaders in the region.
