We had the good fortune of connecting with Tammy Griggs and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tammy, how do you think about risk?
Risk, chance, or opportunity? Depends on how you look at things. I guess. Everything I have ever achieved in life has been the result of a risk I have taken. From leaving a small town and moving to Los Angeles at 22 years old, to working with some of the biggest legends in the world, to starting my own health tonic business, URTHCUR. None of these things would have been possible if I hadn’t taken a leap into the unknown. In fact, I don’t really look at it as taking a risk at all. I see it more as an adventure or an opportunity to explore. A little uncertainty sets the soul on fire. I once had the chance to hop on a plane to work in Kuwait right after the Gulf War. Truly one of the strangest adventures of my life! Another time, I was given the opportunity to work with 2 Hollywood legends in the same week but the only way it could be done was to fly around the entire world in 7 days. From Los Angeles to Paris, Frankfurt, Osaka, Auckland, and back home again, all in 1 week’s time. There was no way I was going to pass that up! The most exhausting thing I’ve ever done. I’ve even walked barefoot across hot coals at a Tony Robbins seminar and I loved every minute of it! If you put an opportunity in front of me that peaks my interest then I’m all in. I’m either going to walk away with a story to tell or a new skillset gained and that’s a win win for me. I often don’t know where things will take me but that’s half the fun! I’m not a 9 to 5 person and never have been. I’m a creative type and I can’t settle for mundane. Some of the best things in life are on the other side of fear so if you shift your focus from risk to opportunity, it will lead you on an adventure of a lifetime.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My career has taken me on some wild adventures and allowed me to travel the world, meeting some of the most fascinating people on the planet. One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned along the way, is to surround yourself with people that are going in the same direction you want to go. They say you are the sum of the 5 people you spend the most time with. If you look around and those 5 people don’t fit that vision, move on. Take care of your health. It’s the most valuable thing you can invest in. Most people wait until they are sick to change their habits or lifestyle when prevention is the long game. Treat yourself to good nutritious food and stay active because you deserve it! If you take care of the body, the mind will follow, I’ve raised my sons with this mindset as well. When I make URTHCUR, I only use the highest quality organic ingredients I can find to bring you the most powerful natural remedy possible. It is an absolute passion of mine. No expense is spared and no corners are cut. Mother nature truly knows best!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Los Angeles is one of the most exciting cities in the world! The health and wellness scene is everywhere and it’s easy to stay young at heart. I’d start my tour of all my favorite things in Ojai at the Ojai Valley Inn for a few days of self care and relaxation. Then explore some of the many scenic hiking trails throughout this city, along the coastline and then up to Griffith’s Observatory to really take in the magnificent views. Followed by a delicious meal at True Foods Kitchen in Santa Monica. It wouldn’t be complete without a bike ride along the ocean and finally watching the sunset by a camp fire at Sycamore Cove. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely!  I’ve had so many wonderful mentors along the way that I fondly look back on and realize just how much they’ve helped me. I’m not even sure if they knew they were mentoring me at the time but I soaked in all of their knowledge every chance I got. One of my favorite mentors taught me the value of being authentic. In a world where everyone told this man what they thought he wanted to hear, I naively told him the truth. I was young and under the impression that if you asked me my opinion that you actually wanted to hear it. I have since learned that that is not always the case. He would often ask me my opinion and if we disagreed on something he would say “Well, if two people agree on everything, one of them is unnecessary and you my dear, are necessary!” It’s such a powerful lesson that especially applies to today. His name was John Frankenheimer and I adored him! The book that changed the trajectory of my life was “Awaken the Giant Within” by Tony Robbins. Without a doubt, one of the most powerful mindset books ever written. I highly recommend it!
