We had the good fortune of connecting with Steadired and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Steadired, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I had been doing camera work for about 8 years and I felt like it wasn’t exciting for me anymore. While I was at the peak of my career shooting large concerts and live shows, it felt like I had stopped growing. In addition, I ended up working concert after concert where the constraints of the shows did not allow me to showcase any creative camera work. So, I dived into researching other options to increase my knowledge and growth, and that’s when I decided to embark on my journey and ultimately fall in love with the Steadicam. It allows me to get beautiful moving shots, be creative and get right up in the action.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I make videos that are all one long moving camera shots with a storyline, and a behind the scenes split screen that explains the techniques. This is the concept that I am mainly known for in the business, as well as social media. In order to achieve this look, I sink up a bts video of me doing the camera work with a voice over explaining how and why I do things with the Steadicam. The videos originally started as a practice exercise, but ultimately escalated in story and execution, as the more popular the projects became online. This also allowed me to amp up the difficulty of the shots and the effects in story.

However, these particular videos came to an end when Covid made its presence and I was no longer able to work with other people.

Instead, during quarantine, I decided to create YouTube videos teaching other operators about Steadicam and its various techniques. The decision to make this content was actually based from when I started to learn about Steadicam. I
had a really hard time finding any informative videos to watch when I was learning. The few that did exist where outdated and unfortunately dull. Therefore, I created my videos to not only be knowledgeable but include my goofy personality.

Since the County has opened up, I’ve expanded to include split screen bts videos (similarly as before) of the actual productions I work on. Of course, with the company’s consent.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
While I would love to say I I’m a city person, my favorite places actually take advantage of the natural beauty of the area instead.

I recommend exploring the Verdugo mountains, specifically on a One Wheel. Or taking the steep hike up to Wisdom Tree.

In addition, there is wonderful swimming available at the lake in Malibu Creek State Park.

Traveling a little further outside the area, I would definitely suggest camping inside Joshua Tree Park.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
While there’s not one specific person I would credit, I would have to thank the dozens of actors, makeup artists, and assistant camera people that collaborated with me to make the projects that eventually allowed me to get known online. The videos I make are definitely a group project that, without other people volunteering their time and skills, couldn’t be completed.
