Meet Steph Evison Williams | Actress

We had the good fortune of connecting with Steph Evison Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Steph, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Some of the biggest risks I’ve taken in my career have been around moving my home base for work.
Growing up in Adelaide, South Australia, I knew I would probably have to move interstate to one of the bigger States in Australia if I wanted to keep playing “make believe” and hopefully even get paid to do it.
When I got accepted into the Victorian College of the Arts Musical Theatre program in Melbourne, I was beyond scared, excited – and young. I mean, I was only 17.
I remember the night before I was due to leave for Melbourne, pacing up and down the hallway, thinking (and saying, loudly. very loudly, to any family member that would listen)
“I don’t think I can do this! Why do you think I can do this?!” (See; Always dramatic)
Moving to Melbourne set my life on a completely different trajectory, if I had played it safe and stayed in my hometown, I wouldn’t have met my husband, my tribe, and the city that allowed me to grow as a performer.
From there I worked overseas professionally and then ultimately moved to LA where I am now.
Which was not easy, it was a long & expensive journey to LA, the place where flyers for headshots and acting coaches litter the streets, instead of how get a good mullet haircut near the Malls Balls (See; “Adelaide”)

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think finding a balance is one of the hardest parts of being a creative. The journey isn’t linear and is often hard to explain to people not in the industry.
I personally love how varied a creative life is; from set days, to audition days, to all the wonderful people you get to create with.
I think that’s my favorite part; the collaboration. That’s why I love improv over something like, say, stand-up comedy. I love playing with other improvisers and creating something from nothing. I love the collaboration in every department between actor & director, costume, lighting. I love a team. I am someone who doesn’t like to work in a vacuum, I think it’s all my years in theatre before falling in love with TV & film.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love the beaches here, the weather, and the food. One of our favorite day trips is taking our dog to Rosie’s dog beach in Long Beach.
I love thrift shopping on Melrose Ave. Crossroads is the best! Grabbing some Mexican at… ANYWHERE – it’s all good in LA. Going to a rooftop bar, seeing a live show. So much to choose from!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The constant support and love of my Husband and Mum & Dad, without whom I wouldn’t be here.
